Default Weight loss?

Hi, I am trying to get a tad skinnier for riding .... I am 13 yrs old, 5'6 and I am about 130 lbs. (I do look skinny in clothes, but I do not look that skinny with out a shirt on in my opinion.) I normally run 3-5 times a week for at least 20 minutes, but I have not been on track at all! I was wondering if you guys have any good wieght loss tips or exercies to get skinnier to make riding a little easier! Thanks!!

awesome Re: Weight loss?

At your age you do not need to be loosing weight. You are shown on charts as being trim for your height. Concentrate on eating healthy and keeping your cardio and anerobic work at a even pace. Stay healthy and don't do stupid things that will hurt you.

Listen to that man!!!

he is right!
There is no need for you to loose weight. Just stay fit like you are doing by running.

If you did anything to loose weight you would probably do a bunch of harm and nothing good would come out of it.

Most importantly.. You are still growing and your body can do funky things but it knows what its doing.

Just make smart choices about what you eat and drink and exercise regularly.

You most definitely do not need to lose weight. I was your height/weight in high school and was thin back then.

In my humble opinion, Florida393 is dead on with his suggestion.

That depends, muscle weighs more than fat and takes up less volume. So if its 130 but mostly fat you will be over weight and large in volume. But if its mostly muscle, then ull be skinny.

Just work out and eat healthy, if u have a high metabolism eat lots when u work out. If u work out to much though at a young age i heard u can stunt growth. By that i mean body building amounts.

With his height and his weight he is not over weight. I'd wager a nomogram would show his body mass index to be on the low percentage side. Sensible diet and regular exercise are what a young person needs. Dieting could deprive him of nutrients a young person needs to develop their body correctly.

Default Weight loss?

I am 23 and I am five feet eight inches and one hundred and thirty pounds. I am skinny and I know it I have people telling me that they want to give me some of their weight and that I need to gain weight. If you are thirteen and you weigh that much you are not overweight. Any thing you do to loose weight would not be good for you.

Just enjoy the riding and have fun, thats what its all about!!!

I wouldnt tell you to do anything to lose weight either, but I will tell you to eat smart. The average fast food meal of any kind won't hurt you once a week. All the milk you want is a good thing while your growth plates are still separated and beyond, as long as it is low/no fat. Fat, especially an animal fat is something everyone should be keeping at a minimum. Drop the soda pop and energy drinks with all the carbs and sugar to about the same frequency.

Double up on vegetables, especially the green and yellow ones. Lean meat, lean dairy, and plenty of fruit and nuts. All you want on those (fruit and nuts) really. If your body drops some fat, then so be it. If it gains some muscle with your diet and exercise, all the better. A person your age, with the proper foods and exercise can eat a whole lot. Overworking your joints and tendons at your age isn't worth it in my opinion, so stay low impact on the exercises. Your body will find it't own correct weight I am betting.

At your age, I would suggest a sports physician's opinion on your workout and overall readiness.

After careful consideration, and your comment on diet pills the biggest part of that consideration, I am going to over rule my instincts and say that you are probably not 13 like the original poster. If you are old enough to work and support yourself, legal age of your state etc,,,take anything or do anything you want. Pay your own insurance fees or medical bills too. You got that "right".

I used to lift quite a bit and went from 175 to 215lbs in about one year. Then I injured my shoulder and knee and couldn't lift, but I continued eating the way that I was when I was lifting. I ballooned up to 255lbs and was way out of shape.

I finally had enough so I started hitting the gym again, this time focusing on cardio and core excercises. My diet consisted of water, Soy milk, soy lunch meat sandwhiches, vegatables, nuts, fruit and a multi vitamin. I lost 70lbs in 8 months.

With that said, diet pills are not the answer. They will only cause problems that are much worse than a few extra pounds. Hard work and dedication to your diet is the only good way to keep in shape IMHO, diet being more important than anything if you ask me.

Thank you for your concern. No I am not 13 I am not the original poster, I mentioned in my original post that I was 23, and I was trying to tell the original poster that he doesn't need to loose any weight, but I would like to thank you for your concern on my behalf.

I weigh in at 200lbs right now but every one guesses I'm in the 175lb range. I tell my wife that I somehow manage to be skinny and fat at the same time, so I know what you mean. I look skinny in clothes but could stand to lose a few. Who cares really. Run what's healthy and don't obsess over the small stuff. You're 13, you have much better things to do than worry about whether you look skinny or not. You have a lifetime to worry about useless crap, spend your time right now just enjoying being a kid.

Water, water, water and more water.

Wait... Water. If you need taste... flavored water. If that doesnt cut it, don't go beyond gatorade. And get rid of that whole mantra your mom pounded into your head of 'there is starving kids in africa, finish whats on your plate.'

When you're full you're full. And water is my premix, minus the mixing. Also, your body is wonderful for adapting, however it does require balance. Working out for a week then taking off for another then working out 3 days then not working out etc wont do ya any good. But, in all honesty stay hydrated. That helped me lose about 10 lbs in itself after I cut out almost all soda, and cut back on some partying

-Max.
