No twisting whatsoever with my injury. It was strictly a bending-outward-to-the-breaking point type of thing. The pressure of the asterisk knee brace caused the break but saved my knee. And absolutely no problems with the ankle area at all. I am no doctor but I would definitely get an MRI to check on an achilles tear. If your foot really twisted around that badly, holy cow! Your do have a high pain tolerance.

Wow, Thanks for the quick reply. I'll continue to do my own research as I don't trust many doctors out there. I've had a few good ones over the years, but don't care for the majority of them. My ER doc told me I need to wait 7-10 days before I go in and see a doctor. If I am still in pain at that time, he said I will need to get the MRI's. The good news is that I'm not positive that it's the achilles. I've been prodding around in there trying to figure it out. It's so swollen on both sides of the achilles that maybe there's just a bunch of fluid causing the pain/ problems........ Hey, at least I can slightly wiggle my toes today

My ankle was excruciating at first. Nothing was displaced or broken and it was much better once the swelling went down. I suspect that's why the ER doc is telling you to wait. After the swelling subsides the MRI will be much more reliable. It has been my experience over the years that you are much better off going to a specialist. I'm thinking a podiatrist will give you the solid answers you can feel better about. At the very least, go to an orthopedic surgeon.

If your achilles is snapped or torn you should have a wad of the ligament that has retracted into the size of a golf ball near your calf. Good luck!!

Good advice and info. from both-- thanks. I will go to a specialist early next week if it's not doing better. I found some pictures and info. on- line regarding achilles tears-- if the tears only occur at the far back side, than I am in good shape. I can't feel the sides yet due to the swelling. It'll hopefully go away on it's own pretty soon. Nothing like being a self- employed roof walker with too much time on his hands these days. One more question... Is it pretty typical to have your foot pointed downward with a sprained ankle to where you can not plant your heel down when attempting to walk? When I try to make my heel touch down, it feels like it's tearing something on the interior side of my achilles. This is a pretty cool forum by the way. I've had some time on my hands to read through it. Hopefully my next question has to do with ridin' ---------- Post added at 07:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:20 PM ---------- yzernie, When I click on your link at the bottom of your post, it does not work-- just thought you would want to know.
