Default So long bad habbit!

At 10am yesterday I smoked my last cigarette and haven't lit up since. It's probably the biggest challenge I've had to face but I have a great support system:Tracy, Deb, Dane, Jack, Cari (my sister) and Chris. Chris and I have a deal, if I last a week he will quit also.... My sister said she was impressed with the way Tracy quit, so after 20 years of lighting up Cari quit and has been smoke-free for 12 days now. I am definitely cranky and the house has never been cleaner. I have to find things to occupy my time with. Wish me luck...I'll keep you updated.

May you have the strength to see it through! I've seen countless folks over the years declare that they had quit smoking and be quite proud about it. But then I would see them smoking anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 years later. It's a tough habit to kick! Give it your best shot!

Good Luck Kevin. Watched my dad try to quit for a couple of years with different patches and medicine with no luck. It finally took him to quit cold turkey after over 20 years of smoking. Of course the doc gave the motivation. Quit or you'll be lucky to see 50. Unfortunately I was still in the house when he did it, thus I must give a good luck out to those supporting you. It ain't easy. For our sake, he ended up buying a '68 Malibu to restore which kept him busy and us sane. He's almost 60 and healthy now, so it was definately worth it.

You can do it!

you CAN do it, I smoked from age 15 to 20, been off for a year and have no cravings. I tried a couple times to quit cold turkey but that never lasted more than a day. eventually I limited myself to 5 per day, then 3, then 1, then 1 per week, then finally none.

SUNFLOWER SEEDS HELP
I was in about the same boat as the Privateer. I smoked from about 14 to 22. Anywhere from 1 to 2 packs a day. I quit a year ago in August and I did it cold turkey with the help of sunflower seeds and suckers. Anything that will keep your mouth and hands busy will help you. And don't take that any dirty places OK people. This is a family site.

Good luck to you. You will feel so much better when you finally kick it. Breathing easier and not waking up with the lung goo that I used to is great. Plus my wife doesn't complain about the smell and the cost.

It's all about willpower. My grandfather smoked since he was 16 years old (King Edwards roll your own type) and he decided when he retired from his job 50 years later that he wes tired of smoking so he sat it down and never picked it up again the rest of his life.

I think some of may remember the post about my health a few months ago. I got all my X-rays and all that good stuff, everything came out fine. While I was talking to the doctor I asked him about Chantix. He gave a prescription but I am a HUGE procrastinator. 2 weeks ago Deb was harassing me about my smoking at the races and I remember I kept saying "I need to quit, I need to quit". I took the pills but continued to smoke. 3 days ago a long time customer of ours told that instead of saying "I need to quit" try saying "I want to quit". It actually worked. While I was at my shop I asked a friend of mine to bring me a Marlboro red, we both lit up and I told myself this was my last one. I took my last 5 smokes, doused them and the pack in MEK and lit her up. Thanks to everyone for the support. I think Chris got lonely on his back porch last night with no one to smoke with. It's amazing to see so many people quit at one time. Thanks again everyone

I smoked since I was 8 yrs old.... I stopped 7 yrs ago and never thought about it again. I dont mind smoke, yes its nasty and all but doesn't bother me..
You have the feeling that your missing out on something. You are.. A horrible way to die.. Thats about the only thing i could think of.

I dont let someone smoke in my truck or car, but anywhere else I don't mind.
But its a daily fight for sure.. Just dont smoke.. For no reason do you smoke, It doesnt help your nerves or make a beer taste better.. It kills you.. It kills your taste, smell and even more your life..

Congrats on no smoking. I hope you well.. Anyone else out there smoking, do yourself a favor and go to a cancer center and see some films of the types of cancers you get from smoking..
Congrats.

Congrads. I used to be kinda big into smoking cigars but I gave it up because of the awful taste it left in my mouth afterwards and for how bad it made my lungs feel.
Just think of how much more money you will have now and how much longer you will live.

Tomorrow's going to be a week smoke free! woo hoo! feels good not to wake up and hack up things that can only be described as "what the hell is that?" I'm gonna stop the Chantix the day we leave for GMB and see how that goes. I feel like I have the will power to not pick up a smoke and light up. I feel good about it and I know I can continue.
