He knows I'm kidding. I also know he is probably doing as well quitting smoking as I am losing weight.

I hope you don't think I was being sarcastic. You haven't seen me in a couple of years. My belly just wants to grow.

Unfortunately I have not quit. I have tried cutting back but nothing seems to work. The wife and I had a very long talk last night about our health and this has really helped me open my eyes as to what I need to do to get back on track. I have definitely had to pick myself off the ground a few times in the last few months. Without sounding like a whiner, the stress of getting this house in order and keeping the business going has been through the roof. I have been getting on the bike and riding much more and my body is telling me the same thing every time, drop some weight and quit smoking. Went to the doctors a few weeks ago and got the chantix prescription. Before last years GMB I quit for almost 2 months. I was proud of myself but I fell off the wagon when we purchased the house. This month has been tough money-wise and at $110 for the prescription I keep putting it off. A family member is stepping up and loaning me the money. I'll keep you posted.

A few things to add: We made a pact a few weeks ago that we would not drink on the weekdays. This has REALLY helped throughout the week and I have also seen improvements in my riding! On the weekends we have even limited our alcohol consumption dramatically. I'm just afraid to get on the scale.....

Quitting smoking is one of the hardest things there is to do. For me to finally quit I had to stay away from people who smoked for a long time. It has been a little over 2 years for me and it is still hard especially when there is drinking involved.

You can do it man!

I too smoked for over 20 years, and am going on week 4 without. It's tough to break the habit. The mental part is the worst. Every time I get the urge while at home I just go play my guitar till I stop thinking about it. I've been taking Chantix for 4 weeks, and so far so good.

I've even got a couple guys at work to stop with me.

You're not a quitter. So, just stop.

Close Pete.
The dick-do disease is when your belly sticks out farther than your dick-do.
I know I'm in trouble.

Hang tough Kev. I'm rootin for you. Just don't give up.
Have to say tho, I would weigh 300 lbs. if it were not for my bicycling.

I'd better stop gaining weight before that disease hits me!

I really like Loki's quote "your not a quitter, so just stop".

Quit after 30 or so years.Yeah I'm old so what? When I quit (6 years ago) I set a date a couple months away and started lighting up every time I thought about it.Got up to over 2 packs a day. When the day came I was glad to see it.I used the patch for a couple days but all they did was make my skin red and itchy.Haven't had a cigarette since.I do get the occasional urge but just don't act on it.I don't know what made it successful other than I just didn't smoke no matter what.Buying the CRF was the trigger to stop 'cause I needed some wind to ride the thing.Hope this helps in some way.Now I need to drop some poundage dammit.

Default Update: Good news!!!

Update....Again....round 3! I tried all sorts of things to kick this habit but they were just not working. Some have sent PMs to see how I was doing but I felt like I letting these people and myself down....again.

So a few weeks ago we were all out riding. A friend of mine was having bike problems and couldn't get the beast started (XR650) I went down this pretty steep hill to help get his bike started. Got it fired up and started hiking back up. I got about halfway back up and I felt like I was gonna pass out and kill over right there. That was the final straw! I was going to quit!

It's been 72 hours since my last smoke and I'm 99% confident that I'm done lighting up. Frankly, I don't miss it but it's been a little tough filling those "gaps". 7 bags of sunflower seeds, 2 bags of beef jerky, 4 packs of gum and a very clean yard! A friend of mine lit up next to me today and my cravings were zero. I think the biggest thing that I have noticed is that I really DO want to quit...not for the wife, friends or family....but for me. That has been the difference from the first attempts. I felt like I was appeasing everyone else but in my heart "I" didn't want to stop. This last year I was up to 1 1/2 packs a day (sometimes more)....and I didn't even realize it until a good friend pointed it out. Going cold turkey, I thought the cravings and all that were going to be unbearable but I think with my motivation and different mindset this will be the last round and quitting will be a reality.

I'll keep updating and let everyone know how I'm doing. Thanks for the support!

My next evil...lose 20 pounds before the end of March......

-Kevin-

Awesome Kevin. I think your reason this time is going to be the key. I salute your efforts and know you're going to kick it this time.
