ShaneRider out of comission FOREVER???

On saturday he went riding in Nevada. I was going to go, but i was busy. He called me in the middle of the afternoon saying that he's in the hospital, waiting for surgery. He crashed on a 60' double. Went off of the freestyle ramp too fast and way overshot the landing. Nearly shattered his right ankle and broke his left wrist on impact. He landed the bike technically, but didn't ride away. The Doc at the hospital said he won't be able to ride AGAIN for how bad his ankle is. Naaa he's going to again. 3 or even 4 years, he'll be racin again. He's stayin home from school all week, so he SHOULD be on ATM. I'll let him fill in the good stuff, the details. Morphine must be nice at a time like that.

Basically has more screws than Home Depot.

He is a great kid, that is horriable to see him be hurt like that. i seriously hope he will be back riding again. good luck shane!!

i cased a double once (didn't crash either). it drove my ankle up through my leg and splintered it apart. three surgeries and three hospital stays, it got infected and i was at risk of losing my foot. i was out for over three years. it destroyed the cartilage between my ankle and leg. it's still a piece of crap but at least i can ride now.

it's going to be tough for him. i wish him the best.

he didn't case it. The jump was 60 feet, he said he overshot it by a lot. He knows the distance.

Shane, sorry to hear about that man. I hope you heal fully and can ride again. I'd shoot a PM to Dr Sanders and get his opinion.

Definitely need a second opinion on this. See an ankle specialist. A podiatrist. More than one. I have learned that your future depends ALOT on who puts you back together!

It could happen to anyone. just like that, well, i don't look at a 60' double then go for it. i meen crash bad out of no where. A quad SLIDING around a corner in your side of the road and then you're in the hospital for a few days with a medical bill that can buy a sweet new bike.

Best wishes to him. Don't listen too much to what the doc's say. There are thousands of folks riding who were never supposed to be able to. Look at doug henery, he was much worse off than shane from what I know and still won a pro-national after the injuries.

Man, i broke my ankle 3 months ago and am almost back to riding.
Go next week to get the boot off. Should be riding in a month and racing by next spring. I would recommend going to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and seein Paul Kammelocher. He is one of the best ankle docs in the USA.
