Mine cost $6000 retail....of course, I didn't pay that much. The Trek is ok, but there are better bikes for the money.

Hey HLD, you seem like you know your bikes.
What sort of bike would you recommend for around $1400?
Full suspension, with hydraulic brakes preferably.

Thanks.

$1400 US, Pounds, or Euros? I can definitely spec out a bike, either prebuilt (with OEM specs) or map out a build from the frame up, depending on your budget ($1400 US will buy a lot of bike in the UK, but $1400 pounds, not nearly as much)

I have £800 GB Pounds to spend, which is just a fraction under $1400 USD.

We can take the discussion off-line if it bores others, but my next questions would be along the lines of finding out your priorities with riding. Are you looking only for fitness (primarily smooth singletrack / dirt path riding with hills), fitness and comfort (same kind of riding, but less concerned with bike performance and more concerned with a comfy ride), or fitness and durability (heavy duty riding with obstacles, jumps, etc...)?

Hehehe...Mountain bikeing and roadbiking is fine, but I use the recumbant to train all week! I cant deal with the hastle of taking the bike out during the week.

I have it plopped in the livingroom infront of the TV, I blast the MX movies loud, I am to the point where I like to go strait through 1-2 of em daily. I find it doesnt do much for endurance on the track however, its a whole diffrent ball game.

If your going to spend that kind of money on a mountain bike then I suggest purchasing a cycle-ops to go with it. My wife bought one so she can ride her mountain bike around when she feels like it and when the weather does not permit, she uses the cyclops to convert it to a stationary bike.

To be honest, it stays stationary 90% of the time and when the kids go to bed, she goes and rides her bike (and reads) every other night. Presently working on the new Harry Potter book.

There are quite a few "trainers" as we call them, that you can find with as many bells and whistles as you'd ever want, or even more simple than the one you highlited. It's a great idea to get a trainer (stationary conversion thingy) if you live in an area with a rainy season, or if you do like to stay indoors to ride sometimes.

Wasn't too long ago that my BMX bike was my way around. It's funny how you never have anywhere to go until you finally have a way to get there.

I need to post a pic of my BMX tire now. The rim is very warpped from getting some rough treatment, if it were any worse I don't think it would be rideable.
