Dr. Mark, I'm an almost 52 year old motohead who suffered from Osgood-Schlatters desease as a kid. It seems like for the last couple of years when I ride hard my knees will ache for a couple of days. I know part of that is just from growing older. I have done research on the net and basically can only find generalizations as far as long term effects of the O-S. Both knees, although not a strong as when I was younger, are still somewhat sound. I have had one surgery on each knee for torn MCL and Miniscus. My questions is these; Are there any long term effects that I need to be concerned with? Will continuing to moto at my age creat any issues associated with the O-S? Thanks in advance, Ernie

Alot of times there is a loose piece of bone in the tibial tubercle. And it needs to be removed. Its really a meat ball thing. It can easily be diagnosed form the X-ray and tenderness around the tuberice.

Thank you for the quick reply!! Will the bone degenerate with such strenuous use such as motocross?

The Osgood-Schlatters residual problem is not progressive. Get it checked out.
