The days are getting longer and the snow is basically gone. I've been working on and just staring at my bike. Then I go down the road to my land (a 10area field) and think about building a new and bigger track or scribble a track design on a peice of paper. Then I've been trying to workout on a regular basis. I WANT TO RIDE! I also have quit smoking for 77 days now, so I feel very jittery and cannot wait to see how much my endurance has improved. I'm feeling 18 again except for the flab around my gut, my knee thats been nagging me for the last 3 weeks and that I know I'm not indestructible. The knee is getting better and I may have lost a pound or two. I hoping to get close to the physical condition I use to be in. Its just weird that I feel like a kid agian. I'll see how my first ride of the year goes in a couple of days.

Your post made me chuckle. I can almost feel how ready you are to ride. Huge congrats on not smoking for that long. I know it's a major accomplishment.

well congrats on all you have done in your life to the good. I am a 41 yr old young man. I stopped smoking 4+ yrs ago and still havent had the urge to smoke when around other smokers. I even let them smoke in my car but not my new truck... Cigs are the devil for sure.. yes I see a larger edge on my buddies that smoke. While in the woods we can ride and they tire out and need to stop.. I dont.... They even comment on the way smoking has helped.. Then they lite up...... You may not feel better in alot of areas until about 1 yr later tho. Your lungs have to heal.. When smoking you didnt use alot of your lung area like the lower part.. Breathe alot deeper now and hold .. Your lungs are a muscle also.. so make sure you work them. With clean air now.... congrats,... now the gut...... I am active at my gym and stuff but its all about the sodas, pops, cokes or whatever you call them... stop drinking them and in a few weeks the belly will go away... I havent changed anything other than this and my 36-38 waist is now a 32-34.... I had to rebuy all my pants and even get new uniforms at work... STOP THE SODAS!!! and if you dont drink them.. Hell I dont know then... BWHAHA!!!!!!!

Great news for sure. Quitting any addiction is NOT fun, but the rewards are worth it. Keep being positive, because you've earned it and it will bring more good.

Congrats on the will power to stop smoking. Having the guts to do that rates high in my book.

Way to go 475! I commend you on your will to kick that nasty habit! As someone mentioned you wont feel the effects right away but dont let that discourage you because by the end of the summer you will motice a difference...especially if you ride frequently. Looking forward to your first ride report...with pics, of course!

Good for you! It is hard to give up anything but something like smoking takes real will power. My son recently turned in a project for school about how to curb nic fits. The research was saying to go for a quick ten minute walk. There was some scientific reasoning but for the life of me I cannot remember what. Maybe worth a try? Good luck and we cannot wait to read your ride report. Last edited by Imahoot393; 03-20-2007 at 02:10 PM.

Congrats on the smoking deal. I have quit about 10 times thus far and was really close once (60 days) but I came back. I'm a numbskull for sure. The biggest problem that I have is the beer. I love my beer and it's very tough to not smoke when I'm having a beer. I guess I'll have to give them both up at the same time but I think I may end up being about as crabby as I've ever been if I do that. The wife may kick me to the back yard. I have a friend that is quitting now and he says he's been on this stuff called Chantix that is making it much easier on him. So if you get the urge, maybe hit up your Doc about it and see if it helps you.

Two times in my life I have let myself slip into pretty bad condition. Right now I feel pretty good again. I have for at least the last 5 years. I won't feel 18 again, I won't run a mile in the 4's again, but I do break into a run if I get in a hurry for something again. I can ride trails at a brisk pace for hours (again). Now, if I just had someone I wanted to do that with who lived close by again! So I know that you mean when you say you start feeling younger again, even if it isn't feeling 18.
