There are some meds you could look into..such as those patches and the like. Or you can go a step further...I know they prescribe Zyban to help with this. I can't comment on how well they work, as I don't smoke. I know that it is one of the hardest to give up. Try setting a date...maybe something like that will help.

Try and get into a program and a support group we just learned this in school and its supposed to be one of the most effective ways of quiting. Something like alcohalics anonomymous. good luck in quiting

| "Try and get into a program and a support group we just learned this in school and its supposed to be one of the most effective ways of quiting. | if it were me...i'd rather take the classes before the meds. but...whatever works for you. ya know? it helps if you can have some support..from friends or family. i think maybe if you kept some sort of log...like, when you smoke and if there's something thats making you want to smoke...such as stress, then once you realize its something like stress, you can find something else to help with that. like maybe exercise. no matter what...good luck with it. |

I used to smoke way long ago and its kinda funny how I quite. I bought a new truck back then that cost about $100 more a month than my old truck at the time. Exactly the amount of coin that went up in smoke, imagine that! I havent touched a cigarette since (no lie) and that was about 9years ago. If you dont need a new truck, how about another bike (or quad in your case)?!

I quit about 10 years ago(two packs per day) after a respected friend told me how he couldn't believe how a smart person could do such a stupid thing. I started thinking about how I had little control over something I was doing that I didn't want to do and it pissed me off. That night I threw my pack of butts away and never smoked again. I think the meds, gum, patches, etc are a bunch of crap, you have to really want to quit, for your own reasons. Mine was lack of control and having people looking at me and thinking to themselves, "what an idiot". Good luck.

First off I used to smoke. On and off for about 10 years. The most I ever smoked was about a pack every 2 days. I never smoked at home. Only at work. My ex-stepdad is dying of lung cancer. If you never have had to be around someone like that you don't really get an idea of how bad this crap really is. He smoked 2 packs a day of Camel studs. First off, I quit just by quiting. Don't go out to where you and your smoking buddies are during lunch or breaks. WHen your stressed hop on ATM or go look at bike at the stealer. Do something you enjoy but where you don't need to be smoking. The biggest reason I quit is for my kids. We all dye, some sooner than later, but I want to try and stick around as long as I can. Second, If these don't bother you I son't know what will... [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Hope it works out for you. I know I felt a billion times better when I quit. In my head and my body.

my dad is a general contractor for a living, and this is funny why he quit smoking. he was so into his job, and he just bought our house, about 17 yars ago now, well since he spent a lot of time fixing up this house to make it better, they bought it before it was even built so it was brand new. he quit only because he didnt want our ceilings to turn yellow. health wasnt even a thought. and my uncle on new years he was smoking, when the balls dropped he said no more, hasnt touched them since.

Congrats on the progress. If your gonna quit you have to just do it. Let me preach to you for a second. I am a paramedic and run call on smokers. Young people and I call 50 young and even younger pulling a oxygen bottle behind them because they smoked and their lungs can no longer process the O2. They get winded just answering the door. Nothing good comes out of it. One poor guy continued to smoke while on oxygen and died because the O2 ignited and seered his lungs. Like Nike says just do it.

Good job!! Most people that I have known have either quit cold turkey or they tapered off and eventually quit. I personally think that you need to change your life up a bit, such as Shifting mentioned. Change the old habits into new ones. Avoid the places where you smoke, etc. I have seen a lot of people really struggle to quit. I wish you the best of luck!!

Your starting off right by looking for help. Here's what I did. JUST QUIT!! No questions. Throw all of your cigs away and NEVER NEVER buy them again. You have to quit buying them before you can quit smoking. Stay away from smokers for 1 month. That doesn't mean ignore them, but as soon as they light up, walk away!!! They will understand that you need to in order to quit. Buy pens, straws, any thing to stick in your mouth that will simulate a smoke, but isn't one. Just remember, get some god damn will power and do it. Don't punk out!! If you stay away for 1 month your golden. DON"T BUY SMOKES!!!! If you don't have them, you won't smoke them. Or you can do what my old man did when he quit. Eat a cigarrette. That's right, chow it down. It'll make you plenty sick...then you'll get that queasy feeling everytime you light. Amazing huh? Good luck!

At $5 per pack, or $150 per month, you could easily buy a new bike and have payments less than that per month. Give yourself a reward, buy a new bike, trailer, truck, etc. It's cheaper in the long run. Tell your friends and family why you bought it so there will be some pressure to not start smoking again, if you do, the bike's gone. Stangmata is right, you can never have butts in your posession again, not a hidden emergency pack or anything. And don't ever think "I'm ok, I can have one now", wrong! You can never have one again. ever.

I didn't read the whole post..just your original post and a few replies becaue I didn't have time to read it all so if this has been mentioned I am sorry.. It might sound dumb but my grandpa quit using chewing gum...he had been a smoker since around 13 years old and when he tried to quit he was in his 70s. He had chewing gum beside the couch and took it with him instead of ciggarettes when he went somewhere...when he got the urdge to light one up he opened up a stick of gum and started chewing. So it will work...how much harder it is doing it that way than the patch, etc I don't know but it would be worth a shot..if he could do it..YOU CAN DO IT BRO...plus..Gum is cheaper than the patch and those nicorette gums. He would just get reguler gum..like those 25cent packs that have 5 sticks in there. GOOD LUCK MANG.

Those patches and stuff just drag you along. I am a firm believer that you need to have initiative and drop it cold turkey. If you REALLY want to quit then you will.

I started smoking ciggarettes in 8th grade because it was the "cool" thing to do. By my freshman year I was smoking a pack a day and could harldy walk up stairs without getting winded, let alone even load my motorcycle into teh back of a truck. I was sorely addicted but decided for my own health that I needed to quit. I threw away all my packs of cigs and just never looked back. Now anytime I even think about smoking a ciggarette it just makes me cringe. I can't even imagine now why I would have ever wanted to smoke a ciggarette or why anyone would for that matter. Like I tell all my friends that smoke and tell me they want to quit the only way to do it is to JUST DO IT! Throw away every single pack of cigs and hide all of your lighters so even when you want to light up you can't. Also carry a pack of chewing gum and anytime you get the craving just replace it with a stick of gum. At 20 years old I now have a pack of gum a day habit but it's a heck of a lot cheaper and healthier than smoking 1 a day! Good luck and let us know how it goes.
