Default Hands...

Hi,

I'v had this problem since I started riding once a week,my index finger on my right hand is realy painfull, even to pick tings up,If i arch my index finger and try and pull it straight with my left thumb it hurts in the middle of bone closest to my palm,I think it's from landing with my finger resting on the brake lever, but i'm not sure how to stop it or make it better.also on my left hand in the longest bone in the thumb i have a small hard lump from riding which is also realy painfull,i can feel the lump in my flesh it's not connected to the bone but feels like hard flesh.anybody have simlar things to this?and more so any ideas how to prevent/cure them? Thanks Ben

i have had this problem a few times. where i race at, there are turns right after a jump, so i have kept a finger or two on the clutch handel for when i hit the brakes, this may be caused by hitting your finger a few more times then it is used to and starting to wear the bone a little. so it is going to swell up and cause it to hurt overwhelmingly. now, as far as a cure, get a tennis ball and squezze it all the time or a gell bal. it will strenghten your fingers a ton.

as for the thumb, it may have been a blister that ya didnt notice and has turned into a calice. possibly a seed wart as well. i had one on my middle finger right in the center. once it got rubbed a few times, it hurt to high hell. after a while it finally quit hurting and went away on its own. BUT i would still go to the dr. do wrong and see whats up to be safe.

It could be a bone spur (a calcium deposit basically) if you've repeatedly whacked your finger in the same spot (brake lever, etc). Get into the doc and have it checked out - an x-ray will tell if it's a spur. You could also have a slight fracture with a splinter off (not as likely), but the X will also pick that up.

Let us know how it turns out.
