Default Glucosamine Dietary Supplement

I responded to a post this morning and thought I would post this info here as well.

About 6 months ago a friend of mine who is in his 40's and rides the expert class in the Texas Cross Country Racing Association recommended that I try using Glucosamine to help with sore joints and mobility problems. I was complaining to him that after a hard day of riding I would gimp around the next day like I had spent a day in the rink with Tyson!! I tried using Glucosamine and it has worked for me. I am not sore at all the "day after" (unless of course I hit the ground!! LOL).

Glucosamine is said to:

"be a basic guilding block for cartilage , synovial fluid and other connective tissue. It is needed for healthy structure and function of joints and optimum mobility"

Anyway I have tried it and it works.

I guess you can find it anywhere but is there a bottle to look for? I need some of that after a hard days ride myself!

SAM's carries it as well as most grocery stores. Some believe it works and some dont. I take 200mg per day. Satch, welcome to the stone age :-)

yup, glucosamine works pretty well. also for anyone that has 'older' dogs, particularly large breeds, you'll find that feeding them dog food that's supplemented with glucosamine helps them out as well.

...for a second there i thought psyklones 'older dogs' was us Satch. Phew !!!

Psyklone, was out at boondoxxx last weekend. Not bad. Room to ride is good. I went out there couple of years ago and met the owner when he opened it up. The main track was the only thing there. Its not Nocona but getting better. Owner said he was gonna build a supercross track at the top of the hill. Given the # of bikes out there I think he'll do it and its a hell of a lot closer than Nocona. Stay tuned

i wouldn't call you and satch older dogs! if i did, i'd be admitting that older dogs could whip me on a track any day. lmao!

i've taken next tuesday off of work and i think fluttergirl and i are going to hit boondoxxx again. so was it just this weekend that the owner (i can't remember his name) mentioned building a supercross track? if so, that would be very cool! he's had that dirt sitting up there for close to a year now. i was there as it was being brought in, he got all of that dirt for free. the army corps of engineers was dredging a lake or something so they needed to get rid of the dirt they brought up ... and they gave it to him free and even delivered it.

He actually mentioned it last weekend. He also said he had a bud with a tractor but that the bud was out until recently. hope he gets started soon. I'm gonna suggest to him not to do a full up SX but keep it more like Mosier or Nocona. that way most of us can still ride it.

I take glucosamine like it's m&m's. I keep a bowl of it on my coffee table for snacks.

I just had 75% of my Medial Meniscus removed from left knee, and Doc says I should start taking 1500 mg of Glucosamine and 1200 mg of Chondroitin a day. I guess it helps rebuild the cartlidge, but remembering to take a horse pill 3 times a day is a pain. Also, Doc said it will take about 3 months before I notice any benefits. All the people that I have talked to that take it say the same thing, 3 months before they noticed any change.
I guess my point in writing this is to let you know it is not a quick fix, and don't give up. It's really supposed to work.

Brand for Glucosamine really doesn't matter. Most brands will have 750mg Gluc and 600mg Chondritin per pill.

I also use MSM1500 (methylsulfonyl-methane) for joint support in addition to the Glucosamine. You can get it at GNC but their prices are usually a ripoff.

Stay away from shark's cartilage - it doesnt' do a thing for you.
