I take gatorade or powerade and water with me when I ride.. Caffeine is not good for you in high doses like in energy drinks or coffee,, I don't touch either.. I do have a weekness for Mountain Dew but I only drink it after the ride is over. A can of Mountain Dew has only half the caffeine of a cup of coffee, the most of any standard soda,, but not as much as some of the energy drinks. This months National Geographic has a very good article on what caffeine does to the body.. if you drink drink more than 5 sodas with caffeine a day or more than two cups of coffee a day your body is adversly affected. They did brain scans and found that people that consume a lot of coffee or other caffeine drinks have less brain wave activity in the mornings, and it doesn't return to normal until they get their morning caffeine fix. I also found out that no type of soft drink is made from anything that has caffeine, soda manufacturers buy the caffeine residue from the companies that make decaffenated coffee and inject it into soda to get people addicted.

That was a depressing post hig4s LOL! This is the first I've heard of "overhydrating" I didn't that it could have an adverse effect. I usually drink plain water when I ride. I have grown fond of AMP, but only use it once in a while when I ride. I like it at work when I can't wake up! Red Bull is good too, I like the way Sobe energy tastes but I don't think it has any effect on me.

Im not one to need an energy drink i usually get up on adrenallin after the first few miles and go all day with no food and minimal water and all day means 5 to 8 hours of nonstop riding. However when i need a pickup i use either Red Bull or get some b12 vitamins from the local GNC health store they are what the doctor told my dad to take for more evergy. As for sobe i love the stuff but it also seems to have no adverse affect on me. I agree the mountain dew stuff tastes like %$#^ and the red bull is a little costly but if it works its worth it.

My drink of choice consists of mostly filtered water. It's high in carbs to replace the energy you burn. It's flavored with roasted hops, the longer they're roasted the more flavor the drink has. So far my M.O. has been to get there early, get my cloths real dusty like I've been riding, then sit on my tailgate drinking my "energy drink" and talking smack. A little warning: This energy drink is sold under numerous brand names but is so good that you can't buy it until you're 21 yrs old. It also has a tendency to make you over estimate your abilities, so it is best used while armchair, PS2, or X-Box racing.

I mix Gatorade and water, half and half. That's what the trainers for my high school football team made us drink. Not the most fantastic tasting stuff on earth, but It seems to do the trick.

If I remember correctly most health professionals will tell you that you need one half of an ounce of water for ever pound of body weight. So if you weight 150 lbs you would need to drink 75 oz of water. 200 lbs would need 100 oz of water. HeavyD I love your energy drink and have to admit that it will adversly affect even xbox and PS2 racing

Energy drinks are bad for you. You might as well drink 3 pots of coffee for every can of red bull.

Actually I think it's about 2 cups of coffee as far as caffeine goes. They do also contains vitamins and herbal supplements.

I know it is bad for you but I like Mountain dew. That will give you energy. also dehidrate you, so I Guess about 3 dews and some water. I really hate water. I drink about 10 MD a day. but I am not in the heat and I stay nice and worm in my coverall while working. so I guess when I make it to the track, if I ever do, it will be bannas, water, gatorada, and maybe 1 MD on the way home after riding.

I used to drink lots of soda, but in the past 3 or 4 months, all I drink is water, gatorade, juice, ice tea, and a cup of soda maybe once a week, and I do feel healthier when it comes to exercising.

just how is it possible to over-hydrate? you'd have to drink about 8 gallons of water a day over an extended period of time (years) cause renal issues. As a bodybuilder and personal trainer, I routinely drink 4-5 gallons of water a day, and my urine is ALWAYS clear except immediately after I wake up (that 8 hour catabolic fast does wonders). I would suggest staying away from the sugar-type energy drinks unless you're in competition. Simple sugars are metabolized too quickly by the body and give you a see-saw effect in blood glucose and insulin levels. Gatorade is your best bet during exercise - if you need an energy kick before practice/etc, any form of caffeine should do it, just stay away from the sugars.

I drink a Sobe No Fear on my way to the track and then drink water the rest of the day. For food I eat a 6" Subway Club on Wheat and 3 peanut butter cookies, then about halfway through the day I eat another 6" Sandwich, add to that a couple hits off the peace pipe (i'm not getting blasted, but it keeps me relaxed and calm, which improves my riding dramatically, if I don't I look like a wounded duck trying to ride) and I can ride all day with no arm pump or dehydration.

We stopped using all energy drinks after a sever case of dehydration for my son. They taste ok and are a good boost but be careful because they have a ton of caffeine. Gatorade and good old H20 for us! 9/11 Racing "Never Forget" Old Man -- #911 - 2004 CRF450 Sponsored by Vicodin and Naproxen My Son -- #488 - 2005 CRF250 Sponsored by Cycle Gear, Sidi, Scott, Tag Metals, EVS, Factory Connection, Dunlop, Excel, Factory Effex, Boyesen, Works Connection, Bendix Brakes, RK Chains, ICW Bike Stands
