For the past week i havnt been able to walk without the use of crutches and for 3 months ive had back pain. So today i got x-rays and an ultrasound. The results werent good. The L4/5 Discs have worn away a lot and this is the worst the specialist has ever seen for someone my age. On tuesday i go back to the doctor to find out what treatment is possible. I did a bit of research on net and everyone got a spine and disc fusion to fix the problem? what is that. It also says i have discitis, which i have no idea what that is. Im only 15 and the rest of my life is going to be sh*t now because of a ruined back, and the fact taht i cant ride or skateboard anymore. im really disappointed has anything similar happened to anyone here and if so have they rode again? hopefully i wont have to sell my bikes, but if i do, itll be money for my first car.

How did you injure your back? You are way young to already be having back problems, I hope it all works out for you. Just make sure you get it fixed and healed up before you try anything again.

im not sure how i injured my back. The pain has been with me for three and a half months. and that week 3 and a half months ago i had a big fall off my bike, a skateboard fall off some stairs and a fall playing tennis. so it could be any combination of those that caused it. Mum wants me to sell the bike already.

i had a bad back-i couldn`t move by myself for 3 months-i wouldn`t trust too many doctors-i went to a doctor-he gave me a whole sack of pills!!yuk, like that`s the answer, whata quack!!finally,my friend who studied in china did acupressure on me-amazing-i was cured immediatly...i thought i`d never even ride a bicycle again-nowadays,i drink valarian root tea to clean my bladder and spinal fluids...remember Dr Strangelove"they`re trying to pollute our bodily fluids"-yes indeed-sciatic nerves and back muscle can be inflamed and hold toxins...inflamation can sqeeze the nerve endings-i`m wary of doctors-i`d rather go to a healer-i`m not a doctor and would be ashamed to join them

I hurt my back a couple of years ago on my bike. I couldn't do anything. Finally found out I had pulled a muscle badly and it was almost 3 weeks before I was better from that. I think I was very lucky it wasn't something worse. Take care of yourself and make sure you completely heal before you go back to doing things. That could haunt you for a long time.

Several years ago I was laid up with back pain and did nothing to instigate it. After xrays and mri they said I was missing a disk in my lower back and was born that way. As a young man I was busy and the muscles compensated for it but as I got older it became weak. They were talking fusing the spine above and below that point as an option, but thank goodness they suggested letting it heal and then a heavy regiment of back exercises to get it back in shape "no pun intended". I also take vitamins and supplements to help me with my joints. I played sports, MX & BMX has a young man and have the joint pain to prove it. My point, try everything you can before they start surgery on your back, you are too young for that unless you are 100% sure there are no other options. I am almost 40 and my back feels great these days, even after spending the day hanging onto a CRF450. Good luck.

When I was younger and consistently road MX and trials, I would frequently experience excruciating back pain. I found a kidney belt helped stabilize my back and, subsequently, also discovered that deliberate back muscle exercise (which you do not really get while riding) really went a long way. Hence, back exercise has been the best preventative remedy for me. I would surely get two reputable specialists to give me an evaluation on my back before any surgery was done. I cannot speak to your specific back problem, but I do know that given proper post-operative therapy, many people that I know have been able to live very full and active lives. Let us know how things work out.
