| Dr. Mark, I am taking a 500mg calcium tablet daily to help with bone regeneration. However, I started wondering about the extra calcium that my body might not absorb. Should I be concerned about kidney stones developing or anything of that nature? Should I drink additional water or anything? I just got curious about any side effects. Thanks. |

| No, 500mg is not too much and isn't even close too being there. If you do take too much, it can lead to kidney damage. I believe too much is closer to 2,000mg and the recommended is somewhere around 1,000mg a day. Not positive on those numbers, but right now you are fine |

| When I broke my talus bone, the doctor wanted me taking 2g (2,000mg) of calcium a day. I did it for nine months or so and didn't have any adverse reactions from it. |

Everyone is different,, I took calcium supplements,,, not sure the mg's,, back when I was playing league basket ball back when I was in my late 20s for a couple years and ended up with kidney stones, I quit, but had re-occuring stones twice since about 5 years apart... I also did bruise my left kidney pretty bad in a bike crash in my mid 20s which may have contributed. |
