$5.00 for getting what you need is a great deal to me. Think about the money youre saving in getting a FREE second opinion and evaluation from the Dr.

It is only a great deal if I ignore the fact that 1) this is stuff I paid for already, and 2) I'm paying $5 PER X-ray for a process that takes seconds and costs nothing. (I've even brought blank CD's with me before so there was no cost for those either.) After all, we're talking about a simple "export" function in a Windows application. This is about as hard as exporting a JPG from Visoneer's PaperPort software. I broke my leg on August 20, 2005, and have seen the doctor probably six or seven times since then. Each time they took several views. All told there are probably 30 different X-rays of my leg, showing the progression over time, from the surgery to my latest visit. Paying $150+ to get copies of those, so I can send him a complete record and allow him to look at the progress, or lack thereof, along the way really chaps my Dr. Mark's generous offer of a free review (it is NOT a "second opinion" in that he's not offering medical advice on my case, but rather telling me how similar injuries have been treated in his clinic in the past; sorry Texas Medical Board) is a separate issue. Being grateful for his input doesn't make me feel less ripped off for the X-rays. And it is still a complete load of crap that MY X-rays are not MY property. Only in the medical field can one pay for something and not have ownership of it.

Well, after ranting about the BS practices in the medical industry in my last post, I DO feel a bit better. Unfortunately the leg still hurts.... But as the Terminator said, "I'll be back."

Most offices do not charge for duplicates, and when there are multiple xrays I would think one small fee for all of them would seem reasonable, and not a fee for each one. As for your medical records you are not being charged for them Dr's are charging you for services rendered. However, they do have to give you a "summary" of your records if you request them.

I don't care what "most offices" do as that is completely irrelevant. As for my records, I paid for them as that is part of the service I paid for and they're records about ME. I also paid good money for those X-ray films, yet they're not mine either. Only in the medical field can I pay for something and not have ownership of it.
