Oh, I just remembered that Works Connection sells weld on foot peg wideners. I can't seem to find them on the site though. Maybe you'll have better luck...

Doc, that's a good discussion topic. I know Dr. Mark has talked about this exact issue before and as an Orthopedic Specialist, he has stated that the knee is a simple fix compared to the sometimes complex break. There is also an inherant danger that he discussed when we were talking about knee braces. There have been a few cases that the knee brace did it's job and the force went to the Femur and snapped it. I didn't know this until he pointed it out but that break can be life threatening wheras the torn ACL can be fixed without major complications. I forgot the exact wording of it but you can look it up in a thread a couple of years ago in this forum. I may try to look it up again and post a link to it because I would like to keep the focus on ankle protection.

This is exactly why I don't wear knee braces. A femur break is no joke and can be life threatening. Knee injuries are nothing to scoff at either, but not nearly as serious as a broken femur. My knees are junk and have been dislocated, twisted etc more times than I can count, but it's always been a fairly easy repair and recovery. I wear neoprene padded knee guards to keep my knees from being rubbed raw and to offer some protection, but a brace is a no go for me.

There are braces that are supposed to break if put under a strong enough load in order to prevent a femur break, but I'm not sure I would want to rely on that.

I found the link! Good reading about what Dr. Mark said about the femur.

Knee brace, broken femur

I disagree with ya my friends and I guess we could go round-n-round all day on this one. But, speaking from experience, (broken femur and 4 knee surgeries) I'll attest that once you've thrashed your knee its never as strong nor as comfortable. On the other hand, the femur is a serious bone to break and carries more risk, once healed its as strong or stronger than ever. I'll continue to wear my Asterisks (however flawed they are, and I admit they are crap for a rotational force injury).
Now the stats for serious ankle injuries is interesting and has my attention.

On the bike that "tightness" disappears. It offers all the flexibility I need to ride without noticing any hindrance. Again, all I'll say is that I dont wear ankle braces with this boot and I havent had to. As far as the Scotts are concerned we need a follow up eval by the one guy that bought a pair. Do they still make the Sidi Force, or is the cross fire the top of the line Sidi?
Doc, just to clarify, they were too narrow for my foot, so they hurt. I still think it's a good boot, but not for my somewhat wide foot. Their were other things I didn't like too, but fit was the top one and immediately I took them off and put them back on the shelf.

Let me also say, I would much rather jack my knee than my ankle. Ankles are very intracate ... joints??? .. I'm not sure what you would call them, but having had ankle surgery, I can tell you, the ankle is a mess to clean up.

I wonder what DR Mark's thoughts would be on this. I do know that he does not promote knee braces, nor did my Ortho that fixed my Ankle and knee. I do have knee braces, but I don't wear them.

As far as the Genius, I really think the look will grow on you. I also believe, that Scott will come out with some different colors in the next year or two, but I have nothing to back that up with. Just my thoughts, because I think a lot of us are a slave to fashion (me and Easy E ) and Scott might well be missing out on some sales just because of color -- as dumb as that may or may not be.

However, having said that, I'd buy the ones they have right now in heart beat. Jacked ankles are NOT fun.

Well while we are on the subject anyone where Berik?

I was going to make that my next boot. I just purchased Jude a pair last month, not only are they cute, but the materials seem stronger than his other leather ones.

A Pro friend of mine is sponsored by Berik. He got a free set of boots, tried them on and immediately sold them locally and bought a pair of Gaerne's. He said they were uncomfortable, didn't fit right and were poorly made when compared to the SG10's. Take it how you will. I know that you said your son's seem good, but when compared to a higher end boot, my friend didn't think they were in the same league.

Woody, you suffer from the same problem as me. I have wide feet so it's hard to find any boot that is comfortable, which is the reason I bought the Tech 6 to begin with. I'll never buy another set of those so it will be good to see what you find since I know you have a wide foot.

Looking and feeling the outside of the boot doesn't compare to putting them on. Thats good to know about the beriks. I was just wondering if anyone here had a pair. They are so cute on Jude! But cuteness doest count anyway
