They seem reasonably priced compared to the others...

Man this is difficult

Really truthfully, its not. You'll get good protection from all of them-you cant go wrong.

You really can't go wrong with any one of those boots. Me personally, I would spend the extra dough on the SIDI Crossfire SRS boots. I feel like they have more options and are a little more protective than the Gaerne's while still being comfortable. Plus I don't like boots with booties.

Actually good point! The deciding factor just may be booty or no booty!

Yes, which is strange. Most boots have either a bootie or external hinge. The Oxtar has both which I don't like. It makes them feel stiff, although it should aid in protection.

well my husband thinks he will be able to wear that brace "the defender" with no problem under any boot. But Woody said he had a problem with that.

we dont live anywhere near a dealership that would have these boots for him to try on... so its really a hard choice

A gamble I guess, but worth it

We are going to order the brace. Its knowing what boots will fit over it....

He needs to read this thread I think

It's doubtful that brace will work with a boot that uses an inner bootie. You could probably skip the inner bootie and just wear the brace if you had boots that used a bootie, but I'm not sure how it would work.

Oh, bootie...

Alpine Star Tech 6's.

I'll offer a personal opinion here of A-stars. And everyone remember that this is just a PERSONAL OPINION! I believe A-stars are the most over rated boot in the industry. Yep, Tech 8's, Tech 10's................. I honestly believe they are over rated. You see lots of pros wearing them and that makes them VERY popular. I was forced to wear a pair of Tech 10's when I left my gear bag 150 miles behind one weekend. I didn't feel good in them at all. Their site even says the "booty" allows for ankle movement to prevent knee injury. I wear Asterisks for that. I want a boot that gives me serious ankle support in all directions.

I completely agree. Tech 8's are outdated and Tech 10's are not even on the same level as the Crossfires or the SG10. Call me nutty, but these are my findings, and yes, I have worn them all.

Correct but in all reality, boots DO NOT prevent injuries. They just cut down on the risk. I honestly do not believe that better boots would have prevented the kind of injury I sustained. Might have, but I seriously doubt it.

This has been a great thread to follow.

Keeto, as we talked about, I wonder if different boots would have prevented your injury. Along the same lines though, I wonder if different boots would have protected your ankle as intended, but then transferred that force further up your leg? That could have been very bad.
