hey kids ... well as some of you know i blew out my left acl in december. i got past the point where the swelling went down and it got to the point that i have a full range of motion with my leg and it no longer hurts at all. i can run with no pain for a short length of time before i can feel pressure building up. actually my recovery so far is what has kept me from scheduling my surgery because now that i can use my leg without pain or awkwardness (is that a word? it looks really funny...) i've been really reluctant to schedule the surgery because i know i'm going to have to start completely over again. well, i comitted and i went in today for my pre-op appointment. i'm doing a patellar graft. if i said i wasn't a little nervous i'd be a liar. if i said i was really nervous that would be an understatement. anyway, i go in this next wednesday (2/11) at 6:00 a.m. to get it over with. i'm taking 3 days off of work and i'm working from home the next week. with any luck i'll be back to riding (at least putting around) in about 2 to 3 months. that's what i'm hoping for, anyway. they're fitting me for a cti brace as well, which i'm supposed to wear for the next 12 months during any activities that require a quick pivoting motion ... although i'm hoping that my asterisks (not yet ordered) will fit the bill well. if anyone is interested in seeing the week-by-week schedule for what acl rehab involves these days, let me know and i'll post what they've given me. also, they're going to video my surgery from inside the knee so i'll have that as well as still pics if anyone really wants to know what happens. here's hoping for the absolute best. riding or not, i'll be at gmb3. cheers, zack

Yes, definently keep me updated, I blew my right acl out in August and have been rehabbing it ever since. It feel about 85% and I am planning to race this season wearing my asterisks. First race March 20th. The asterisks are awesome and support and fit my knees to the T and they give you the comfort of knowing you have extra security. I got back on my bike 6 weeks after my injury, little soreness after riding but nothing I couldn't live with. I'm planning on my surgery probaly January 2005 after the race season, or if I reinjure my knee again, whatever comes first, Hopefully Jan. Good Luck!!!

I hear you on the nervous part. I've never had surgury, but i'd be nervous too. Really nervous. Good luck and YES keep us updated. On the CTi, why would you order the asterisk too? The Cti is what my buddy (Mxerhale) wears when he rides.. Or are you talking for the other leg? CTi is actually the medically prescribed Asterisk (same company), but supposedly a little better, and is made to fit YOUR knee.

I'm very interested. Looking at the same ACL graft surgery myself. I chickened out when the doc mentioned complications from scar tissue and previous screws and I never really followed up. Please send me any info. Thanks, Psyk

Zack.... I fully understand being nervous. I'll be thinking of you on Wednesday. I, for one, would love to see the video and pics. I'm always amazed at the things they're able to accomplish these days. I know you'll do great in rehab! I can't wait to meet you at GMB III, and you will be in my thoughts! -char

Anterior Crucial Ligament, its the ligament behind the knee cap, which keeps the knee cap from going side to side or front to back. To correct this problem they usually cut a small piece of ligament from the front of your knee and screw it in under your knee cap by using 2 small screws. The acl can't heal by itself because there is not enough blood flow behind the knee.
