Default 10 week checkup on ACL Reconstruct

Well, I just had my 10 week post-op checkup with my surgeon. I usually show up with shorts on so he can look at my knee, but was wearing long pants for this checkup. So, he came in and grabbed my leg to check on how it was doing and then asked if I had a brace on (he didn't actually touch my knee). He measured the bend and checked for a tight ACL. He then told me that from a scale of 1-10 on how I was progressing, he would give me a 10!

I now think that he asked me if I was wearing a brace because I have gained a lot of muscle back already and he was used to seeing stick legs and narrow knees. I sure am glad I've been doing all my physical therapy exercises. They are a pain, but I do them religiously.

I just thought I'd share. It really made my day.

He's saying I have to wait for the full six months post-op to ride again, but I'm thinking I can start slowly & work my way into it at about 5 months, as long as it feels good. 5 months would put me at November 16th, and I have to be able to ride by the 12th.....Mesquite here I come!

I have to see him in a couple of months and will talk to him about it then.

I'm on (almost) week 16 and for some unknown reason the doc told me at my last checkup that I could start riding at the 5 month mark. He'd said 6 months a few times originally so I'm not sure what changed his mind, but my muscle is already within 1/4 inch of the other leg so maybe that's it. Anyway, Nappers are you planning on wearing some knee braces now? I highly recommend them.

Yup, I got some asterisks. Too bad I hadn't bought them before the injury. I am also supposed to get a brace from my doctor. I don't know what they give out, but my PT was telling me it would probably be an over-the-counter brace. I believe my asterisks will be just as good as whatever they give me.

Let me know how you feel the first time you get back out on that knee. I'm curious how everyone feels getting back on the track. I know psyclone is doing well with his knee and starting some easy riding before the six month mark. I even think he started doing some riding at 4 months.

The big factor will be how I feel. So far, I'm ffeling pretty good, but no where near good enough to think I can get back on a track yet.

Isn't it amazing how quick things heal these days? I think back to a couple of weeks after surgery and think how I've progressed each week and it just amazes me that I had an ACL replaced just 10 1/2 weeks ago.

What braces do you have mxerhale? Take good care of yourself and I better see you at Mesquite!

I have a pair of CTi2s, mostly because I had already previously torn both of my ACLs. I'll give you an update after my first few rides but I plan on starting out in wussy mode, plus I'll be breaking in my new bike along with my new ligament.
As for Mesquite you'll be seeing me FOR SURE!

It's good to hear you're progressing along. Keep up the good work on the physical therapy. I think you'll be ahead of schedule because I think doctors always plan for the worst, so you don't get discouraged.

They sure will be... But knowing you, I'm sure they'll be right back in shape ASAP.
