Default So I tried HDR in FMX photography........

So I tried to take HDR photography into FMX. As far as I know, it hasn't been printed in anything I have bought. 7 different exposures to make up this one. It's certainly different from the norm but not 100% sure it works? What do you think?

Trigger Nac @ Redrock in HRD. I stopped after this one as they don't really come across as HDR. They just look like over processed pics. If you seen the originals you could see how much dynamic range has been added but I just don't think it works here. I'll try again in the near future though, I haven't given up yet

I still like the pictures, but yeah, they look over processed. The riders look somewhat fake -- almost photoshopped in there.

What is HDR? High Def Recordings?

I thought that the stationary objects were very rich in color and definition, but the moving seemed a tad washed out. Still cool though

any time you can retain details in the highlights AND the shadows, its a good thing. in that aspect you succeeded. reduce the effect on the rider and youve got a winner! well done. After a stint with this process, Ive found it easier to just use capture NX2's shadows and highlites recovery tools. Nikons also have an Active D-Lighting function you can turn on while shooting, which does the same thing. dont get me wrong, a properly executed HDR is the best way to go, but it is time and labor intensive and is more conducive to landscape photography than sport. show us more!

Woody-HDR= High Dynamic Range-keeping the sky blue(not washed out) and details in the shadows. You may know this but for anyone interested...If you expose for the blue sky, the trees would be too dark and if you expose for the trees, the sky would be white. So you take several exposures, 1 of the sky, 1 of the dirt, 1 of the trees, etc...and combine them together so that everything is properly exposed.

I just got put onto a program called "Photomatix Pro" It's very simple to use and very quick. It also has an option to use it on a single raw frame. That can be handy if you just want to get that little extra exposure latitude out of a single frame without giving it that "over processed" look that HDR gives.
Here is a church door I shot 6 frames of yesterday and converted to HDR

I'm not sure I like it. It just doesn't feel real. The HDR affect that is. the picture is cool.

when its overdone, you get that effect- I dont care much for it either-esp with the red end of the color spectrum-for me, less is def more with this treatment

Looking good.

I want to learn the tecknique as well.

Here is a couple of pics I had saved of some HDR shots.
IMO it is like taking the sharpness of the photo and increasing it by 200%.

For a splash of unique, I really enjoy HDR shots.

Now those aren't bad... though it kind of gives that first shot the look of a painting instead of a photo.

I can see that their is an art to this and I'm guessing it's not that easy either.

You know what Woody. About 90% of the people I have introduced to HDR pics have all said the same, that they didn't like it.
It's certainly not for everyone thats for sure.

I'm not saying I don't like it, I suppose I just prefer a good normal photo.

Keep at it as I'm sure you'll create some master pieces before long.
