Default Custom Ice tire pic

Here is an old pic of my bike with a custom rear tire I built for it. I drilled holes in the rear tire and ran snowmobile studs through the holes and bolted them on. After this pic was taken I added an additional 700 screw-in studs to help improve traction on glare ice. I can't find the video I had of taking off from a stop to show how the studs chewed up the ice, but it was impressive. Note to anyone who wants to try this.....don't bother. It was a dangerous set up and the tire fatigued and failed due to the stress of the long snowmobile studs. It was fun while it lasted and I did ride on it for two seasons. Now I just use the regular screw in studs and load as many as I can on the rear tire. Just wanted to share this as I haven't seen this pic in a couple of years and just ran across it.

AWESOME Setup. I hope to get to ride a bike with studs screwed in the tires one of these days. <-- that's much better

I actually thought about it when posting it. I think I'll modify my statement

Hey Woody here's an opportunity just for ATM'rs. My ice race bike is just sitting in my garage ready to go, as I mentioned in another thread I am not able to do the ice race season this year............ so if any of you daring folks want to give it a whirl you are more than welcome to run it hard. There are local races here for the next 3 Sundays, so pick your date and I'll gas it up!
My only warning is it can be very addicting and you may just want to move to Alberta.

Only if you lived a lot, and I mean a LOT closer, I'd be there in a heart beat. I may have to go visit my neighbor though (he's the one that did it on his CRF450 and rode around in fields). We don't have any lakes near though, nor do we have any snow at the moment..
