Well I am glad I don't need a sheild.

Yardpro I can see where you would assume that when someone says racing they are talking MX...thats what you mostly ride and what you are used to more than trails, etc. Yeah I probably will not get a XR400R although they do have alot of potential. Yardpro did Suzuki stop making just the plain DR-Z400? I went to there site a few days ago and all they listed was the electric start model??? I forgot about the KDX's That would probably serve my purpose really well to since i am gonna try to race more hare scrambles next season and it has alot more bottom than my CR...I guess the 2-strokes/liquid cooling have just kinda taken a toll on me cause of my CR but I need to get over it and learn that it is rare..I might go for a KDX220...think I would be disapointed in a KDX220 after riding my CR?

the xr 400's have alot of potential, i will agree with that. i would love to have one if i lived where you do, but i would not seriously race one without alot of $ spent on it. a 440 kit, some suspension work, and some carb work and you'd have a bad arse ride, but woul would have alot of $$ in it also.

i would hate to see you spend the $$ on one and then be dissapointed, cuase we'd have to hear the whining
seriously, i think the drz or the kdx would be a better option for you. don't be scared of water cooling, what you are going through in your cr is a fluke. I have never seen a problem like yours before.

brw- Suzuki's site is outdated and doesn't list all of their bikes right now. Weird but true.

Thanks for help Yardpro. I got this post off topic so I will post another thread about the KDX220 in the General Discussion forums.

I ride a 2002 cr250r. Whats wrong with your cr250 matt. It pretty much sounds like you dont like it but anyways the first thing you need to get done when you ride an mx bike in the woods is the suspension. I have mine done and love it now. It doesnt skip off roots or anything. By the way the kdx220 is a great trail bike and its a lot smoother than the cr but the cr will definately be way faster than the kdx.

Kyle heres the run down on my CR.

I bought it and about 2 weeks or so after i got it I noticed the flywheel when pulled up and down had play..the crank bearings were bad..so I tore the top-end apart..split cases and put new bearings in(a shop split the cases and put the new bearings, seals and a new Wiseco Crankshaft in but I did all the other work)well I get it back together and put about 15 hours on it(raced Gold Hill since I had it back togehter)well at the 15 hour mark my crank bearings blew back out. So I am gonna fix it again and sell it..i love the CR but gotta get rid of it before something else goes wrong.

Oh I see I never knew what happend to your cr. That sucks man!!! Well If you want a new bike that you are gonna race hare scrambles with I would probably go with a kdx200 or a ktm200exc . They are both great woods bikes. I kinda like the ktm better but I would definately get the suspension done on the ktm before I would race it.

Default Iíve had experience with this bike

I’ve owned a 2008 CRF250R which is a racing bike and then I bought a 2017 CRF230F which is a trail bike. Its power difference is noticble but not by a whole lot. It’s good for racing but even better for trails. Don’t let people talk you down from racing it. It works just fine. It more depends on who the rider is than what type you have. I do recommend getting new tires and a lighter exhaust system.

So yes, you can race a CRF230f. At least the 2017 model you can. I don’t know the power difference in older models.

Way to drag up a near 15 year old thread, LOL!
I'd still love to see someone try to be competitive on a 230.
