Default yz125 fork issues

I have a 1997 yz 125. I am about 5,5 and 135 lbs. I bought the bike about 6 months ago. I have jest been to a sx track to ride and noticed on high speed bumpy straight aways the handle bars turn back and forth and its kinda scary at hight speeds. i wondering what to do to fix it. I was also wondering about the front forks. i thought they seemed a little stiff and was wondering what adjustment to make? compression or rebound? i havent check the height on the forks or the sag yet so that might help. i also need some advice on how to check the sag.
is rebound on top of the fork or compression?
i forgot

thanks for all your help!

1st set the sag
compression is on the bottom of the fork, rebound on the top.
come out on the compression (counterclockwise) two clicks
increase rebound damping (clockwise) 1 or 2
make slow adjustments, a little goes a long way

Check steering stem bearings as well. Put the bike on a stand and grab the front wheel and feel for any play, if they are worn it will cause headshake.

Also baseline clicker settings for you.. about 12 out compression, 12 out rebound. Turn the adjusters in untl they bottom out/stop moving, then back them out 12 clicks.

As for the sag, set it about 100 mm or 3.75in. Look around on the internet, there are plenty of websites with info on how to do this, it ain't rocket science!

If you get the clickers and sag set and you are still having issues, chances are real good you have some worn out internal parts in your forks that are causing these issues, and you need to get them rebuilt.
