Default YZ 125 Rear Supension

I just got this bike traded my 07 CRF150R for it, and wow this 125 was full of problems that I didnt notice until now. But heres something new, the rear shock was shot so I was like well I'll just buy this 2001 yz 125 shock off of ebay well turns out the shock is form a older bike like a 94 and the rebound compartment(part where shock connects to linkage aluminum piece connected to the rod I dont know the name) is shorter on the 94 so what I need to know is, is there anyway to swap this piece from my 05 onto the 94? Oil goes into the rebound adjuster (right?) so would it be possible since the oil is pressurized? (Is it possible without taking the whole shock apart, is what I'm asking.)

There is no oil in that lower area, but pulling it apart if it is charged with nitrogen will likely create an undesired result.

The rebound adjustment is transfered to the valving via a small shaft through the center of the main shock shaft and is sealed, so if the shock has a nitrogen charge, it could push this rod out and expell oil when the bottom is removed. Discharge the shock if you are going to try this.

I can't say if the older lower housing will work or not - sounds like something I would not try. I would try to locate the correct shock or simply rebuild what you have. It's not all that tough to rebuild a shock if the shaft and housings are good.

Please do not dismantle a charged shock!

Chances are your 05 shock is in better shape than the older one.

You say the shock is toast - what's up with it? Does it leak oil?

Yes it leaked oil pretty bad and when ever I compressed the shock really fast and let it come back up it would make a metal hitting metal noise..

That 05 shock is a lot better than the 94. The valving is better, too.

I strongly suggest getting the 05 shock rebuilt.
