Default WP Rear Shock

Hi, Hope ive got this in the right place. ive got an 1989 Xr250 with a white power rear shock, with remote reservoir. Has anyone got any info on stripping and rebuilding. Ive looked through the posts but cant find anything. Ive got a manual for the newer shocks, wondering if they are much the same. Ive got no damping top or bottom and undoing the allen bolt holding the big washer on the reservoir to get to the gas fill valve, looses gas. Thanks for any info.

WP shocks are specific in order to put nitrogen in reservoir, so you have to make or to buy one special tool. If you want you can try to find this file on net "WPtools.pdf" and there is picture of all proviided tools for wp suspension

Hi, Thanks for the help. What i need if anyones got one is an exploded diagram or manual. My plan IF POSSIBLE is to replace the WP set up of re gassing by removing their valve tapping and inserting a shrader valve as SHOWA etc (as i say if possible, wont know untill i get it apart) which then gives better options for re gassing. Ive got WP tools manual and im ok for tools except the re gas tool. Interestingly I phoned the big KTM shop in Exeter UK and they dont even have the tool to re gas.
Thanks for any info you might have.

You can try [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Go to the very bottom of the above page & than come up to the bladder conversion kit & see if this is want your looking for! this is the one I got for my KTM, you'll have to e-mail them which model of shock you have to get the right kit.

Brilliant Big Maico thats exactly what I want to do. I could do with knowing volume and type of oil, and gas pressure.
Ive asked a lot of suspension rebuilders but they dont want to tell me. They dont want to be giving out to much info, which is fair enough. The oil issue aint that bad to work out, but i beleive presures on these older shocks are higher than the newer ones.
Thanks for any more info.

Ive got this shock apart now but im having difficulty removing the 22mm nut on top of the shaft (very tight) so i can strip it to replace the seals and bump stop. It looks like it might have been staked on the top of the nut, there are two small indents either side of the shaft ontop of the nut. Do i need to apply heat to the nut to expand it a bit. Problem is its very close to the piston dont want to damage anything. Thanks for any help

I have pictures if it helps, can send just let me know. Thanks

It must be like that. Nut must be sealed at the top like that to be safe. so you must remove the exed of material of the shaft or use the force to unscrew the nut if you destroy the nut you must replace with same one (material and strenght of the nut must be the same) if you want send me pics on my mail of your shaft for more precise informations
