Question short legs?

out of curiosity if your 125 or 250 or for that matter any bike has a set "sag" of between 95mm and 100mm and you still cant plant your feet on the ground...what do you do? Does it just become a matter of learning to ride that way? Or is there something you can do about it?...perhaps high heel shoes?...LOL

other than lowering the sag and sacrificing some cornering ability (the front end will push more in turns) you can go the cheap route and just learn to ride like that, with one foot flat on the ground and the other foot on the peg (which is how i am) unless you're a beginner and need to have that assurance.

or, you can go the deep-pocket way and have your suspension lowered, but it costs some dough. i'm not sure how much but it invoves cutting the springs, and having it revalved to work with the shorter springs. you'd have to have this done professionally if you want any kind of good suspension after you chop the springs.

How much more additional lowering to you need? You can have the suspension lowered like Blitz393 said. Some companies make lowerinng links (kouba link) for many of the bikes. You can also shave your seat down some to get it a little lower. Some guys even cut their subframe to lower their bike that way they dont sacrafice the suspension (I am not sure on the specifics of doing this but I know some guys who have done this). Good luck.

the bike is new "YZ250S" 2004..The suspension I know has not settled in yet and Im sure itl drop slightly in time. I was just curious as to what options where if needed. At the moment I can place both "balls" of my feet flat on the ground I just cant plant both heels sitting straight up, which isnt a serious concern for me, like I said ..was curious to what others may have done. Im 5'11 and 195 pounds, so it should "fit" in time once everythings settled in...(i hope...hehehe)

I am 5'7" w/ short legs.

Accordingly, I went with this second option that Blitz mentioned with my KTM 300 exc. The last time I rode in the woods it was just too hard taking low speed corners in tricky situations that require some solid footing. It wasn't just a matter of psychological assurance, but in this case a case of safe fun.

I went with [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] for the work. I also purchased the little overflow bottles you see on the site for the front forks.

In the case of the CRF450, I am just leaving it as is, since MX tracks are far different from tight woods. If I am still not happy, I can later take the seat to an auto upholstery service and have them shave an inch or so off the height. We will see . . . .

oh, and havoc, if you are already touching with the balls of your feet, then you will defenitely have it settled so that you will have the heels of at least one foot touching.

I was going to try that myself Blitz, but Tryce made a good case for the fact that the seat cover has to go on in decent fashion once you are done carving and, unless one is fairly experienced (which I am not) in the procedure, chances are high that it is going to look sloppy.

Plus for ca. $25 at an upholsterer, I figure my time is definitely better billed-out in a different direction.

I just have 1 foot on the ground flat, and the other is on the peg. I'm 5'8" and i am still growing (well my appetite is anyway), and that's fine for me. I would like it better if i were about 6' that would be perfect.
