| I have just bought a 1994 CR250 and it has the blue spring on the back and is way to soft for me as I am around 250 pounds. I ride in MI and mostly trail ride but would like to hit some jumps every now and then when I get better but mostly whoops and trails and small jumps for now. I was wondering if anyone could help me with the right spring for the rear of the bike? I have looked at a few spring sites on the net and there is alot about spring rate and all but was wondering if anyone could hook me up with my wieight in mind. Should I also change out the springs in the forks or change oil weight? Thanks for your help ahead of time! Scott |

| Scott, you need to set up the bike for you. ..race sag. Do a search on suspension setup.I think there is some topics around here on it. You can stiffen up your current suspension by turning the jack nuts down on top of your rear spring. But being a 93 I would think both ends need to be serviced with new fluids. |

| I've found racetech's spring rate calculator to be pretty good. It says you need approx .48kg fork springs and a 6kg shock spring. You should definitely change the fork springs. They are actually a bit soft even for a standard 150lbs rider. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] You should definitely change the fluid in both ends as this is a standard (but oft overlooked) maintenance item. It is not a good idea to go with a different weight, particularly with cartridge forks/shocks (which yours are). If the valving doesn't suit you, have the suspension re-valved. For starters dial in a bit more rebound damping to cope with the heavier springs and take it from there. As its a MX setup the compression damping will be a bit heavy for off road for lighter folks, but it may actually work quite well on the trails for you. For serious MX you'd need stiffer valving without a doubt. Last edited by bikepilot; 10-25-2009 at 09:27 PM. |

| I have a 96 cr250 and just resprung mine. I also weigh about 250. I put .48 kg Race Tech springs in the forks and a Factory Connection 6.0 kg in the rear. (I would have gone RT front and rear, but I found the FC spring for $100.00 less than retail on the 'bay) On my bike those spring values work great. It made a big bifference...better handling, no more front end washout, WAY better handling on sand, and I can finally jump something. I'm ok with my stock valving for aggresive trail riding and my lame attempts at mx riding. I'm only limited by my lack of skills. Bikepilot is correct on the other maint items. At least change the fluid and make sure your bushings are in good shape. If they haven't been changed in a couple of years, I would change them, and put new seals in while you have your forks apart (as was reccommended to me).
