Default Shock rebuild - can't get the damper rod out

Hi, i loosened the bottom nut with an impact gun on my shock (1993 yami wr250) without holding the damper rod with a socket, now it just spins freely and i can't get it out, the plug nor the damper rod.
Did I strip something or there is a trick to doing it?

I'm a little confused.

You loosen the bottom bolt, turn the forks upside down and push down on the fork leg to reveal the lock nut and then turn the lock nut to relieve the pressure on the end part (not sure of the name), and then remove the end part.

So what you are saying is that you didn't loosen the lock nut, but simply used an impact gun to remove it?

I'm not sure on the KYB (I think that's the forks you have???) but all of that material is aluminum, so it's very easy to strip.

See pictures (these are showa, but it should be similar).

Is that what you are trying to do?

Ok alert is down.
What ended up happening is that I didn't loosen the bottom bolt under pressure while still on the bike, so it just ended up in a free spin with a dampening rod (that's where i would have needed factory holding tool for the inside of the fork.)
I was suggested to reassemble the forks and try loosening it under load. So after putting them back together, I flipped the fork upside down and pressed on it while loosening the bolt, and it started coming out.
I am very relieved.
Btw your forks look very different from I have.
yes i have kyb

Whoo, good to hear.

Yes they are very different. 10 years is quite a difference. Those are the Showa twin chamber from my 2003 CRF450, and yours are KYB, non-twin-chamber, so yes, they wouldn't look very similar.
