Default 1997 YZ 125 Oil Seal Problem

Hey guys I've got a 97 Yz 125 and it has fork oil dripping from the upper fork seal all the way down. I imagine this is just a broken seal that needs replaced but how do I replace it? : I don't have a manual for this bike or anything so any help is appreciated.

Yeah a service manual is going to almost be a must for someone who has never done it before, along with a couple special tools (Fork seal driver...)

It could be that your seals just have dirt inside them you can try and get it out by sliding a pc of fil negitive up around the inside of the seal and pulling it back out. If that doesn't work you will need to replace the seals.

I am moving this one to the suspension forum for Shocknut to further comment on.

The bushing/seal order is the same.

Remove the fork cap. slide the tube up a bit to expose the top of the spring. Slip a 19mm wrench inbetween the spring and grab onto the nut right below the fork cap. Then with another 19mm, unscrew the fork cap from the nut. Then you can remove the spring

Once the spring is out, dump as much oil as you can out of the fork, and set it on the side. Then with a 14mm hex socket and an air impact wrench, remove the basevalve. The basevalve threads into the cartridge which "floats" so you need the impact wrench to bust it loose. Remove the basevalve, and grab the damper rod to remove the cartridge. Once this is out of the way, you can split the tubes. Pull down the dust seal, undo the funky metal clip that holds the seal in, and "slide hammer" the forks apart

^^ my comments from another thread

its a big job unless you have access to the right tools... incl. a fork seal driver (bout $50)

If you have a local suspension shop, take them your forks... expect the job to cost in the hood of 100 smackers
