04 YZ250 spring change
The forks and shock are in for serviceing and spring changes. I like the stock suspension but the stock spring rate is a tad soft for me (read-I'm to fat for the stock springs!!).

forks from 4.4 to 4.5

shock from 4.7 to 5.0

Going to leave the valving stock for now and will make changes if necessary.

Should have them back at the end of the week and will ride this weekend. Will give a ride report after I get some time in on the track.

You should notice a fair bit of difference. Keep us posted. It will be intresting to see how much difference there is.
good luck.

Yeah, let's know what you think of it. I had mine also put on my weight and it feels good now!! for me it was about 250$ for the shock and suspension

Re: 04 YZ250 spring change
Wow, is the shock that under sprung?

Re: 04 YZ250 spring change
Yep, I thought 4.7 was the wrong rate listed in the manual. I had the boys at the shop check it and it was correct. Both of the spring rate calculations I checked reccommended the 5.0-5.1 for the shock.

Anxious to see the difference and how it effects my riding. Hopefuly it ill make me a bit more confident and that equals being a bit faster too.

Right on. Just wanted to make sure. I'd hate to see you slow down below the speed of sound. :D

Hey Ernie

Did you say your manual says your spring is a 4.4 on the front?

My manual says mine is a 4.3, is this correct? maybe I should go up to a 4.5?

Re: 04 YZ250 spring change
Ernie, did you get the new springs from Yamaha or aftermarket?

Who is putting them in? Yamaha shop?

How much is it costing you?

Re: 04 YZ250 spring change
I'm at work right now but, if I remember correctly:

the stock fork springs are a something similar to a 4.38 (close to a 4.4). I am going to 4.5 springs in the forks. I got stock Yamaha fork springs at the 4.5 rate. I've used the stiffer Yamaha springs in the past and have liked them.

I got a Race Tech shock spring because even with my discount at the Yamaha shop the stiffer stock spring was more expensive. I have also used the RT shock springs with good success. Going from a 4.7 to a 5.0.

Having my suspension guy change out the springs while he services them. It's easier to do it that way. The fork springs are not hard to change out but I figured I would have him do it since he was going to have them apart. The shock spring is simple to replace but to do it the subframe and shock have to come off the bike.

Not really fair to quote a price because as a part of my sponsorship they do it cheap. I think the going rate for service and spring changes is about $300-350.

My suggestion would be after a few rides, get that stinky fish oil out of there and change out the springs at that time.
