Default Rekluse Z-Start 2001 CR250 install and ride report

Hello... I did a lot of research on this before I opened the wallet and ordered the clutch...Everything I read was positive.... if not glowing....
The test platform is a 2001 CR250.....I know this is a 4 stroke site,,,, but I do own 2 4-strokes .......I got tired of taking all of the dual sport stuff off the XR400.... every time I wanted to abuse the bike on the tight trails and muddy hill climbs. Plus I wanted to see how the two stroke side of the house lives...
And for $2800 for a 2001 CR250 with Suspension work already done ... including delivery !!! I did change out the pipe to an FMF Gnarley and a 12 .oz fly wheel weight.... Made the 2 stroke hit a lot smoother ... It still has insane power..... 220 something pounds... and over 40 HP.... Zoom... The plan is to make her a woods bike which as I understand the CR250 fits the bill nicely... The Rekluse auto clutch was the next step..... First of all let me say that the folks at Rekluse ... especially Sean.... are great... Fantastic technical support...
So .... Here we go.....

Parts as they come from Rekluse

Tools needed( You will need two sets of feeler gages)

Here she is ready for the install

Disconnect the Clutch

1st Lay her on her left Side

Disconnect the Rear brake

Remove the right case cover...( I numbered the bolts)

Tape up the opening around the clutch ( Dont want to be droppin anything in)

Remove Pressure plate, mounting bolts and springs( Put all of this away (not to be reinstalled)

Stock Clutch pack

Re stacked Clutch... all of the stock metal rings removed... stock friction plates used with the new Rekluse rings.. 5 .047's on the bottom and 2 .062's on top.

reinstall the new clutch pack... making sure a friction plate is on top.
and install the six alignment studs ( provided by rekluse)

Install two spacers per alignment stud.

Disassemble the Rekluse Pressure plate

Install the lower portion first...

Place a drop of gearbox oil in each ball channel

Install the balls

Install the pressure plate

Install Cover

The perch adjuster was also installed, this allows you to keep your stock clutch set up to use as an over ride ..... The adjusted comes stock with CR250 kit.

The ride report is well as you would expect.... I have the clutch almost totall dialed in....I think I stalled the bike once all day....I can charge in to a corner in 4th gear... lock up both brakes and it will just sit there ...idleing away.
Climbing hills... putting power to the ground ... I actuall stopped on an up hill and then got going again.... I cant beleive how cool this thing is....
Oh you want to Wheelie.... just grab some throttle.....
My rating 5 Stars!!!!!!

Excellent detailed write up on the install!!!!

Glad to hear you're happy with the Rekluse. I know we have a few other members with them as well and I've heard nothing but good about them.

First off, your bike looks awesome for an '01. It's great to read a report on someone trying the new things. That was one of the best detailed install reports, thanks to the pics.

Have you heard of anyone using the Recluse on an MX track?

Yea.... my bad on the 4 strokes only thing....I copied my post from thumpertalk.... But god do I love my two smoker..... Thanks Guys...
The CR is an excellent platform... I was desert riding in Cali two weeks ago with some Damn fine people,, just out side of Randaburg... Got a chance to ride the Queen mother... a CR500 1997.... I am of the opinion that bike is the best kept secret in off roading... Lug it like a thumper ... and prepare for light speed cuz she will do it!!!!! If I lived out west I sure would own one
!!!!!!!

Thanks again!!!!

My 9 year old son was involed in an accident and lost the movement of most of his left leg. He has been riding a KTM motorcycle 50 cc that he did not have to shift; however, he has grown out of it and has moved to a 65 cc bike that has the shifter on the left side. I heard that he could use a recluse clutch and that could solve the problem. I can see that many of you have seen, installed or have them. Where did you get it? Thanks a million.
