Default Kryptonite Cable; The ultimate in bike security?

Does anyone use this cable for security? How well do you trust it? I had bought some of this cable and a NEWYORK FORGETABOUTIT lock a couple of months ago but my EX wanted it more than I did for her bicycles and took off with it. So....yesterday I was at Home Depot buying lumber to fix my barn for a secure place to keep my bike and noticed they had this cable; I bought 1 - 25', and 1 - 8' cable for $35.00. I thought that was a steal!!

Does anyone else trust their bikes within the confines of this cable and "will it keep the honest crooks honest"?

well it may not be cut able but if you string it through everything i dont thing they would want the bike because they couldnt grab crap off of it. But if they want it that bad they might be able to think of a way to get it.

i dont have my bike secure in any way...it is in our barn which has no doors. Anyone could just come up and steal it, but they wouldn't. That is what I like about living in the country, you know all your neighbors!

I know what you mean.....I now live about 4 miles out of town...I have a barn that I can put the bike in but it just has a hasp and lock on it. I also live off the road about 100 yards and you cant see my house from the main road...I guess that is what bothers me....someone could just come up while I am out of town and beat the door down....that is why I am putting steel doors on the barn...LOL

I am so freakin parnoid!!! I must be getting to old!!! The thing is, for the last couple of years while my wife and I were married, I kept my Banshee and her Scrambler under my shed, with no doors on it, and no locks on the bikes, next to my shop and never once thought one thing about it. But since I bought this YZ.....that is all I can think about is someone stealing it.

Tim,

I use the same cable for the last 4 years and still have my KTM's.

I also put a padlock on the rear rotor when traveling. If they cut the cable, it sure will be hard to push a bike with a rear wheel that won't turn.

I would think that would detour most theives.

Only thing is that if someone wants it, they will get it, it don't matter what you do.

Besides, it looks to me like a hacksaw would make short work of it.

I am also a little paranoid of theft of my bike too. I have a lock similar to the one you have there in the pic. I have the Harely Davidson big bike lock. I thread it through my rear wheel and sprocket, and lock it up in my garage. I will also use the padlock on the rear rotor when we trailer our bikes places. Thanks for the great idea!

I use a special "space age" lock and cable, it's tuff as nails, so i think you should be fine using the one you got.

I use one of those at the races, but I am sleeping right beside the bikes. I also put locks on the brake rotors.

I wouldnt trust that alone to keep your bike safe. Like motoman said if they want they will get it.

I use the 15' Kryptonite cable with a Kryptonite U-LOCK. I run the cable around the leg of my work bench and then through the front wheel and frame. Then I put the u-lock over the rear wheel/rim and lock the cable in the u-lock. This is kinda like a rotor lock, as the wheel won't turn with it on there. I also keep the bike in my garage. I think more than anything, this keeps someone from coming into my garage and stealing my bike quickly. If someone really wants it, they will get it. (can't imagine someone taking that much time/effort to steal an 8 year old bike, even though it's in great shape) I think as long as you lock it up with something, you will be better off than just leaving it there for someone to take.

I've got a Kryptonite cable. I used to use it if I was going to leave my bike in the bed of my truck for awhile... I didn't really use it when my bike was in the garage. Like others have said if they really want it, they will get it. You want to make it hard for them to take it, slow them down, and perhaps discourage them from even trying.

I don't have a lock, but wouldn't mind getting something similar to that.

If you are at the dunes, or where ever and sleeping next to the bike, consider getting a cow bell and attaching it to your bike + the locks. Nothing like a cow bell to scare the hell out of them and wake you up.

I'm a Kryptonite dealer and I wouldn't lock up my trash with that cable. If you really want your stuff to be there next time you go to use it, get a Kryptonite New York Noose and a Stronghold Anchor for your garage floor.

I cut through a half inch thick kryptnite cable that I had in 30 seconds with my dremal with a cut off blade attached....That cable doesnt do anything...it takes 30 seconds with a dremel or one of those cutters to get thru it....your better off just putting your bike in your garage where it cant be seen or getting a pit bull...
