Hey, folks I learned something new the other day Unfortnately it was about a week too late to help me. If you use No Toil airfliter cleaner and you air filter comes apart (like my twin air did) then it states on the cleaner bottle if you send it to No Toil they will replace it with a new air filter. I wish I had known. $30 down the drain.

Right on. Good to know. Are there any good tips on how to apply the oil? Currently I put the filter in a ziplock with oil and start working it in. This is time consuming and am curious if there is a better method.

Filter cleaning I invested in the Twin-Air filter oiling and filter cleaning tubs. I just put on surgical gloves and let the tubs do the majority of the work. they are available in a set , the filters, cleaner and oil are what I already used. The tub for cleaning comes with a rack for the filter and both have lids to keep cleaner and oil from spilling. Bill

Bill, Where do you get the tubs? Are they specifically for oiling or just any rubbermaid tub? Do you waste a lot of oil doing it this way?

I got the set from Dennis Kirk. Rocky Mtn. Supply has them cheaper and if you buy a set listed you get the two tubs, the cleaner and filter oil. I will look up the costs and parts numbers when I get home from work and post them. A rubber maid would work, but the lids, seal on the Twin-Air is better. I waste little or no oil this way. Bill

will the stock air filter fit in the tub? I can't tell by the picture on the website.

Yes the filter will fit. I have used the tubs to hold or clean soak a filter over night. the cleaning tub is the latger of the two. The cleaning tub is approx. 12" in diameter and 10" tall, the oil tub is approx. 8" in diameter and 4" tall. Both have metal handles on them. Dennis Kirk lists the tubs and the fluids seperatly. The oil tub is $6.99, filter oil is $13.99 per liter. The cleaning tub is $12.99, the cleaning fluid is $20.99 for a 4-liter can. Rocky Mountain shows a kit with oiling tub, cleaning tub, 4-liter cleanng fluid, a spray contact cleaner and 1 liter filter plus surgical gloves. Their price is $51.99. I have had good luck with Rocky Mountain. I purchased my tubs at Denis Kirk before I found Rocky Mountain. No service complaints there. Rocky Mountain seems to have consistently lower prices. I have purchased my filter oil and cleaning fluid there lately. The websites are: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] You can look and decide. I am sure some others have these products. These are the two I use and have gotten good service from. Bill

Right on Bill. Thanks for the links. I have used rockymountain with good success so far as well. They are local in Utah and have some of the best prices on the net. So do you just dunk the filter in the oil, let it absorb and then "ring out" the excess oil, then let dry? Thanks again Jeff

Oiling a Twin-Air filter in tub I pour in about 1/4" of filter oil in the tub. Make sure you use surgical gloves, push the filter into the oil / tub. Work the oil around the filter thouroughly with your fingers and dip it in the oil as necessary. Squeeze out the excess oil, do not wring the filter as that stretches and deforms the filter, and could tear the filter easily. Keep working the oil all through the surface of the filter on both sides with your fingers (in gloves) until it is uniformly covered with oil. Squeeze out the excess as well as posible. Let the filter sit to dry to a tacky coating of oil before running the engine. Wait for the filter to tack before running or you could suck excess oil into teh carb / cylinder. You do not want to have this happen. You will get to disassemble and clean a carburetor. You can get this down to a 5 minute routine to clean, oil and ready a filter for use. It is a good idea to have at least two filters ready, one installed and a second al cleaned , oiled and tacked stored in a zip-loc bag with you for a race or a ride. Bill

Thanks again Bill. Great information and technique. Sounds easier than the ziplock bag way. I will try this method next time I oil my filter. Thanks again Jeff

One thing I might add in the filter oiling process. After I oil and squeez, I put the filter in a clean shop towel or paper shop rag and sqeeze again. If you ever noticed when you try and squeez the oil out, it gets sucked back into the filter when you let go. The towel aborbs the EXCESS oil the filter doesnt need! This helps prevent over oiling and rich jetting conditions. Randy

Ren, That is why you should use surgical gloves. I buy a box for $10.00 and they last for several months. Bill
