I use an old tupper ware bowl. But lately I have been thinking about trying a squirt bottle. In the old days I use to buy K&N filter oil in a spray can, but that is just too expensive.

I read somewhere a guy recommended poking some small holes in the aluminum seal on top of the filter oil and using it like salt shaker, or shower head for applying filter oil. Did you really use K&N gauze filter oil on a foam filter? I saw a friend of mine that had this K&N oil for his filters (foam) said he has been using it for awhile! I guess filter oil is filter oil ! As long as it gets tacky and traps the dirt

I went and bought a rubbermaid tub(4.00) at Walmart. It has a lid and all so I won't waste any oil after done. We will give it a try and see how it works.

The only concern I have is over oiling the filter. If I am working the oil in and then smash out the rest is this good? Or do I need to do something else to prevent over oiling?

Thanks
Jeff

Filter oil

Just squeeze the excess out. Take your time and repeat this several times. Do not wring the foam filters. They tear and / or stretch easily.

I use a pair of heavy rubber dish washing gloves. When I get done oiling the filter I leave the gloves on and wash my hands with hand cleaner. This cleans the gloves so you can reuse them.

here's more info on the twin air tub kit.

First I love mine. But don't but thier expensive cleaner. I requested a MSDS on the cleaner, did a little snooping ( I was bored and had a torn rotator ) and found it is only mineral spirits.

Been using mineral spirits for several years now, much more economical, especially when you celan 5-6 filters per week.

Talking Twin-Air System

Yardpro,
I did know that the cleaner was mineral spirits, and I could buy cheap palstic containers. I chose Twin-Air because they put money back into motorcycling, especially dirt bikes. I have used their filters since the early '70's when they were first old in the states and I liked the quality. It is just a quirk of my personality I guess. I am really anal about loyalty, I guess it comes from the Marine Corps.

BTW, how is the leg / knee doing now? I hope you are coming along alright.

To make sure I get the filter evenly coated I have been using this technique. I currently use No-Toil by the way. Anyways.........I switch back and forth between the spray and the bottle, but when I buy the bottle, I take the cap off, leave the foil on the bottle, poke several holes in the foil with a small nail or tack. This allows me to apply a little oil at a time, making sure the filter is evenly coated. It works beatutifully. I have used the old "oil and fitler in a bag trick", but found I was wasting a small amount of oil every time due to it sticking to the inside of the bag.

florida-

I totaly understand. Kudos to you. I Use thier tub, and thier oil tub and oil. i use mineral spirits, however because we clean so many filers per week (bikes and out maintenance equipment, mowers, etc.). The twin air was getting very expensive. I also try and do all I can to promote the sport I love, so I see where you're coming from and frankly now I am a little embarased by my comment. Thanks alot you know how to make a guy feel GREAT

The knee is coming along nicelt, thanks for asking. I am walking around now. Can't squat past halfway yet, but not alot of limp now when walking. I go to get my MRI wed. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I want to second Flordia 393's Good Luck with Rockymountainmc. I have ordered from them More than anyone else and have had NO PROBLEMS and there customer service is GREAT. I accidently ordered the wrong thing one time from them,so I emailed them and told them,They went out and grabbed it off the UPS Truck before it left, changed my order and got it back on the same truck . They also have good prices and usually order from them because of the good luck I have had with them and also because I can 95% of the time get it cheaper from them . So you can buy with cofidence from them . Later guys,Matt

I think I used the word "THEM" a little to many times in that post, lol

yep, rockymountain is great. They are somewhat local to me (about an hour away) and going to their store has been great. You go there and just pick up anything you want. Tires in paticular are a screaming deal from them.

I figured I would get my plug in for rocky mountain as well. I have had great success with them. They are always friendly and returns are no hassle. Prices are also very very good.

I use the plastic bags my wife brings the groceries home in. I poor a little oil in the bag, work it around the bottom and sides, drop in the filter, work the oil in, and throw the bag away.
works great !

I have used no toil oil and cleaner together, the cleaner when used with their oil does a excellent job.The oil on the other hand my opinion only, does not stack up to the belray filter oil. This is how I oil my filters,I clean out a used liquid dishwashing bottle, I prefer palmolive LOL. I pour the belray into the bottle and I just squeeze out what I want on the filter and use disposable gloves to massage into the filter.I really think dunking the whole filter is a over kill and waste of oil.You never get all the excess back.Push the cap down on the bottle and store it away!! Mineral spirits or kerosene to break up the oil then I use warm water and soap for the dirt.
