Just wanted to add... On my throttle, I used a can of Prestone brake cleaner to get the old grip glue off (smells like finger nail polish remover to me). I also want to add -- on my new Tag T2 bars, I put some Renthal grip glue on and let it get tacky for a short couple seconds, then put a bit more on and slide the grips on. They have not moved at all since glued. Regards, John

Even with the glue, I safety wire my grips. Just ask stickboy what happens when your grips come off!!

another good way is gettin some paint thinner and pooring it in the grip and slide it on, its really easy and once it dries it wont budge,

You can take off grips without tearing them up. I use an aircompressor and just blow the grips off. I use the same thing to put them on.

I have no idea how you are going to be able to change those grips with out a grinder! But then again, you may never have to change them. I sure hope thats the case. Hair spray--works great! I was able to ride in less than 1 hour after new grips. grip glue-- don't use it that stuff was never set days after grips were put on! AIR COMPRESSORI KNEW THERE HAD TO BE A WAY TO GET THEM OFF WITH OUT CUTTING THEM UP! |

take a small ball pean hammer and tap the clipped ends into the soft of the grips so the"pokey" ends are facing the actual bar not your palm

I used to use Carb Cleaner also. Seems to work the same as hairspray. The chemical in it works just like a glue when it hits the rubber and "joins" it to the bars. I also use zip ties. About 4 do it for me. Just make sure the "heads" are where they will not bother your fingers. Near the front bottom works good that way they will fall between the center knuckles. They act like an extra grip on muddy or extra wet days to.

.... hmmm im gonna be changing my grips when i get a new bike. How does this safety wire work? Do i just get a pair of pliers and wire, then wrap it around and twist it to tighten it on, then cut the end off?

SAFTEY WIREEEE you need savety wire pliers to twist the ends together, then cut the excess with about 1/8 of an inch left and fold i over (i usually push the end up into the grip with the end of the pliers) the thicker the grip, the easier to hide the sharp end

I know this subject is a little old, but I don't have installing problems any longer with Ruffian clamp grips that I picked up at Alba Motorsports in Poway, CA last month. They went on in about 5 minutes. The kit gave the left grip with clamps, two sets of bar ends, throttle tube and grip and allen wrenches all for $23. I've had two spills with them on since and they didn't budge or jam up the throttle tube or anything. I've definately been sold on them and will never glue or safety wire grips again.
