ken..they make these dandy wire pliers...puts a nice twist on it. also, you need to get the wire in the right spots...then its like you don't even notice its there.

you cut the twisted part off about 1/8 inch out the fold them up and forward into the grip.

Motoman hooked me up with the double loop of saftey wire trick. works super. holdsmuch better, thanks jim.

I have had a bad experience when it comes to the grip glue. I used the renthal stuff and at the first sign of moisture, the grips were twisting all over the place. And that was with wire in place. However, when I used hairspray the next grip change, I have had no problems since. Rain or shine. Just make sure that if you go with the grip glue that it is water proof or you'll be sorry...

The air compressor trick is great... unless you run handguards like me and have to cut the ends off your grips I did the same thing Woody did and had good luck with getting the grip off with no damage to anything.

I use the renthal glue and safety wire. I buy grips that have channels for the wire to fit into. I've never heard about the hairspray trick. Does ANY hairspray work?

Looks like I will know what to do when I change my grips. It has been a couple of years since I bought the 400. But it may be handed down to the next rider in the family if all goes well in convincing the wife to let me get a new ride. Looking more to the YFZ450 but maybe a 450r.
