you cut the twisted part off about 1/8 inch out the fold them up and forward into the grip. Motoman hooked me up with the double loop of saftey wire trick. works super. holdsmuch better, thanks jim.

I have had a bad experience when it comes to the grip glue. I used the renthal stuff and at the first sign of moisture, the grips were twisting all over the place. And that was with wire in place. However, when I used hairspray the next grip change, I have had no problems since. Rain or shine. Just make sure that if you go with the grip glue that it is water proof or you'll be sorry...

The air compressor trick is great... unless you run handguards like me and have to cut the ends off your grips

I use the renthal glue and safety wire. I buy grips that have channels for the wire to fit into. I've never heard about the hairspray trick. Does ANY hairspray work?

Looks like I will know what to do when I change my grips. It has been a couple of years since I bought the 400. But it may be handed down to the next rider in the family if all goes well in convincing the wife to let me get a new ride. Looking more to the YFZ450 but maybe a 450r.

I've run a big bicycle shop for about 12 years and I've installed THOUSANDS of grips. The absolute best adhesive to use is a slow set superglue. Yeah, the hairspray thing works fine for casual riders, but it's gonna slip, safety wire will slow the slipping but not completely. If you get a small hole in the grip and get any water under the grip while pressure washing etc, the grip will slip. Hairspray is very water soluble, obviously. Spraypaint works fairly well, but will sometimes dissolve soft compound grips and can be messy. Grip glues can do the same thing, don't hold particularly well(that's why it's not that hard to romove the old grip!) and can be a super pain to clean up if you smear/drip any. You can use regular super glue but you have to work fast. The best technique I've found is to drizzle some on the bar/throttle and a little in the opening of the grip the slide the grip on with minimal twisting. Perhaps the biggest advantage to superglue is that you can ride immediatly. By the time you put the tube of glue back in your tool box, you're ready for the next moto. Superglue applied very sparingly will also fix a seatcover tear very nicely.

That is good info. Although I will say I have never had a grip slip with saftey wire, at least not when done properly.

I have used superglue, Renthal grip glue, and hairspray to install my grips and never had a problem with any method. Another use for superglue is to fix small cuts on your skin. It's like second skin and once the area heals up the superglue falls off.

O man, your uing scott grips? I have the same ones...The wear and tear very easily. But I must say, for 10 bucks they are quite comfy and the black ones look really good on my bike.

O, I use this stuff call grip stick or something, its like 50 cents a tube and can do like 5 pairs of grips....I have used blue locktite in a pinch...holds fine for a ride or 2, but did start slipping. It started slipping in a race, which sucked, but a friend had saftey wire amd one of those cool spinning plier tools so we put that on and it worked fine for the rest of the day.
