standard. running an O-ring chain can feel like your rear brake is dragging, especially on a 125. An X-ring is just slightly less friction than the O-ring.

Keeto is right on...once the O-X ring chain warms up there is no difference. On the dyno, a NEGATIVE graph will show you the power losses thru the trans, rr wheel, chain, tire etc. The diff between chains is absolutely minimal. I am referred to as a HP monger...anything for that last bit of HP...and I use O-ringers. TW

Yep, there is not a dimes worth of difference, just that the o ring or x ring will outlast the normal chain by 3X or more.

you can tell no difference at all. the reason all the pro's run regular's is cuase they are paid to run them, and they are given a new one every race. guess who pays for thier salaries and chains? the poor saps that have to buy new chains and sprockets every few months cuase they think the regular chain gives them more power

Good point Yardpro! The bad thing about the standard chain is that they also wear out the sprockets just as fast as the chain itself, thus causing even more $$ spent to change it all out.

i started this post to see how many people used standard chains. my new did x-ring chain had came in and i thought it was a little too stiff for my 2003 kx 250 and had intentions of sending it back for a standard. i'm new to this sport and just wanting to ask the people that know all about it. according to all of you i will keep the x-ring.

The X ring that I just got from RK is an X W Ring Chain. Pretty cool. The X is what Keeto said and the W is for the mating surface of the chain to the X. So there are 3 different parts of the X that touch the metal. Pretty cool I thought. It was 120 bones retail though. Good thing I paid 50% off... $60. She's gold too. Yaah
