I'v never tryed using a O-ring or X-ring chain, but I like how on normal chains you can take them off easily when washing the bike. Usually After a day at the track or long day riding at home I take off my chain and soak it in a bucket of kerosene and scrub it really good with a wire brush. Then rinse it with a little bit of gas and hang it to dry overnight. It gets all the broken down grit out from inside the chain. I still have the OEM chain on my KX, I'v had the bike for 5 months now, but it almost time, just the other day I could notice my C/S sproket is getting worn.

beefydog I ran with my stock chain on my 03kx for 7 months when I changed it to an o-ring jchain and carefuly compared the to together I could see a noticeable differance in the length. Just a thought if I were you I would check your links for strech before replacing your sprokets.

I remember the days of using Bacon grease! It was long ago when I first started having an interest in bikes. This old guy (30's?, hey I was 12!) who rode mx on weekends would let me help him clean his bike and get it ready for the race. He heated up an old coffee can full of Beacon grease and soaked the chain. My mom wondered how I acquired a sudden taste for BLT's! I also like Sidewinders. But Only their chain, I use Ironman sprockets. Had 4800 hours on my last set and you would never know it!

Thats 800 days if you rode 4 hours a day!!! A normal Motorcycle doesnt last that long!! Somebody call Guiness World book!! |

OOPS! Sorry guys my bad, double hit the "0" It was supposed to be 480 not 4800. I average 12hrs week and had the last set on just under a year. they didn't show any signs of wear.

RK and D.I.D. have proven their reliability to me.tsubaki chains used to be known as the best before o'rings. chains are supposed to be strong without being too brittle, they should stretch instead of breaking.

My new Regina O-Ring Chain. This is my first O-Ring ever. Anxious to see how it does. Tired of stretching DID and Renthal standard chains!! LOL |

might be a stupid question but... If you have an O or X ring chain do you still need to clean it and lube it after every ride? Whats the maintenance on these? Last edited by 1500cr250; 05-20-2004 at 06:51 PM.

clean it ...yes. With a soft brush...no wire. Lube it.....yes, but just to keep the outside from rusting. Heavy duty chain lube is really not necessary. The cleaner the lube the better (some use WD-40 for rust protection. I am staying with my O-ring safe Silkolene).

I currently am running a Regina standard chain on my bike. It is way tougher than the stock DID junker. It has hardly stretched, the only thing I don't like is having to lube it a couple times a day during long rides. I was thinking of going with O or X ring next time. I have heard of people having clearance problems with these though. Comments anyone?

Satch0922...i hope you have good service with that regina.they look very good...but is also the only chain i ever had to break on me! i'm not blaming the chain though...i had about a year of very hard riding on it.it busted a pin in the middle and spread open/came apart.....and of course in the middle of a hill climb.i got lucky that it didn't cause anymore damage(chain whiplash to case/or cause me to crash)...my engine did rev higher than i thought it could without exsploding.this was on a modified scrambler 400 4wheeler.....it was heavy and made alot of power...i figured it was only a matter of time before it showed the weakest part on it.

Well I have a dumb quesiton. How can you tell if a chain is worn or needs replacing? I've got the stocker on my 2000 KX and It seems to be ok? I have replaced the sprockets though.

Measure the length of a section of 17 pins and it should be no longer than 259mm or 10.2" (mm is easier to be exact). This is out of my 02 CR250 manual for a DID 520MA2 Chain. Not sure but I would think that it would be the same for most chains. I usually go by rear sprocket wear and replace the sprockets and chain together.

Roostman is right the chain and sprockets should be simultaniously replaced.

I bought a Parts Unlimited japanese x-ring chain for my bike from [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] It seem's really well made and have 15 hours on it and havent yet had to adjust it so it seem's pretty good. plus it was only $50. P.S. Why do people think an x-ring chain transfers more power than a standard chain. It lasts way longer but has more friction. Last edited by YZGreg; 07-22-2004 at 12:17 AM.

It doesn't. Your correct in your assumption. X and O ring are less efficient.

Yeah but if you are fast enough to worry about that.....you ain't buyin chains.
