I don't mind a bit. I've got a few bearings and seals to get my money back on so I'll post up a final dollar figure after that.

Ready for the sub-frame.
Start the lower bolts and place a tad of oil inside the rubber carb connection.(Batman Bailey's suggestion.) It slipped on pretty easily.

A little pressure from this 18mm wrench gave us plenty of room to hook up the clutch cable.

Time to add fluids. I left the seat off and hooked up the gas line just to see if it would start.

Engine Ice, courtesy of Big Maico.

Buttoned up and ready to go except for the skid plate!

Awesome pics Jedi! Although I didn't get into the low end part of the engine I felt like I hit the replay button when I saw these pics. Juat got her bike back together a few hours ago. I also did another fork seal on the CRF, (the one with the nick), pulled a bone head move and damaged her lower bushings.... So, how does the bike run?

rbm33 is my back up. If I run into something I can't figure out he has the tools and the resources to get me out of a jam.
And believe me. My patience was wearing pretty thin a couple of times! But it's all worth it when you hear that sexy little purr and you get to go racing again!

Okay, for those of you asking, the total cost was below $400 for parts. That's a new crank, main bearings and seals, counter shaft bearing and seal, new piston and rings, and all new gaskets. I did all the labor myself so no cost there. Had I not been pressed for time, I would have replaced more bearings and spent more money. But I needed it up and running for the next race.
BTW, I get a decent discount at our local Honda shop so the parts were a little cheaper than retail. Not to mention I got the Wiseco piston kit at wholesale thanks to a fellow racer.

Next time you put in a new piston, try putting one circlip in the piston and then slide the piston into the cylinder first. Next drop the whole thing down over the rod and slide in the pin. I've found this to be a bunch easier. Those oil rings can be a real bear, especially if you are doing this by yourself.

Jedi,

Nice job on the rebuild. I just did same on mine after 4th gear chunked. The motor had 170 hours when it happened. I decided to just rebuild the whole bottom end while I was in there: crank, all the bearings, ALL the gears and shift forks... maybe a bit overkill, but I had time on my side.. total cost for all the parts was around $800. The transmission is what killed me. I definitely needed to replace 4th gear - the others had some pitting and wear on em and probably could have gone longer. Oh well, I know what's in it for sure.

I wimped out on the bearings and took em to Piper for installation. I also had him assemble the tranny: holy cow - had I known about RBM's little trick to keep the gears together, I may have been able todo it myself.... as it was, the tranny basically fell apart as I removed it. Next time, it will be different
