that is some good info, for anybody who owns fourstrokes,

my wifes CRF150f is electric start only, to get tdc, i just roll it back in gear till it locks up the rear wheel pretty much?

simple advice, and may in the long run be really beneficial.

thanks for sharing.

this it what i heard from a honda and suzuki mechanic it is because of the alluminam valves thats why they need more adjusting then other four stroke brands.

well you want a honda to last long you buy an xr or a 2 stroke haha. I swear any bike in the xr line up is bullet proof they must have made them out of old tanks or somthing haha my dad had 1985 xr 350 for 15 years never rebuilt the built the motor untill some indians stole it and put it in the salamanca river. he also did blackwater on it 3 or 4 years haha. He said the crf x 450 was a huge let down awesome power but it doesnt last even 3 races so he went back to KTMs and i did to

It is possible that the cam chain is wore out. Depending on use etc. the cam chains on Honda 450's have a life span of around 50 to 60 hours, mine was toast right at 60 hours, you can tell by the timing marks, if they aren't quite lining up, the chain is toast, replace it and they should be spot on.

All that being said....Honda's are kinda noisy on the top ends.

Watch your right side intake valve......it will go out first, its just what they do.

You see, I have a hard time with this thread. My CRF has tons and I mean tons of hours on it, and not one single problem with valves. Still starts first kick when cold or warm. So how do you explain that? Still on the original spark plug from 2006. I think Jedi can vouch for that as well. Maybe it's just poor maintenance?

Now that you've said that, expect to shim your valves within the next month

Maintenance has very little to do with it. Honda sent out a tech sheet to avoid any issues by preempting any recall talk and blaming poor maintenance.

I know guys that are as ANAL as they get...and are putting new valves at 30 hours and guys that didn't know there WAS a filter having them last 300 hours.

The coating applied to the valves IS the culprit. Where the thickness was up to spec, the valve had a long life, where it wasn't, they died an untimely death.

Sorry Freak, i'm sure he had his rebuilt by Pro Circuit early on, after the valves crapped out. I still say it's the Uni cam set up that's the real cause.
