Would not a series of "wings" stacked and spaced (I suppose the spacing being the big unknown) accomplish this?? |

I can recall with a fair degree of uncertainty, a discussion on some tech board, referring to devices in the intake tract to smooth airflow through the venturi. At the time, (I haven't visited the board forever and can't even remember which one it was) after some lengthy hypothesizing, someone suggested a bundle of hex shaped straws (picture a honeycomb) completely filling the bell to the slide. Don't know if it made it to experimental stage, but seem like it would provide the variable powernow.

I am sure if you sat down you could come up with numerous concepts and variations on the theme... the single plate works well and the majority of riders will get some benefit out of it... to get too complicated, you would have to amke sure everything in the engine was running at 100% efficiency... ports were shaped ans smooth, biggest valve syou could get, optimum jetting, ideal exhaust... Just the simple mod will amke your bike more useable down low... Cheers, David

I enjoy the way a four stroke will lug out of a slow turn and blast down the track to the next obstacle, but do the james now and you won't believe it. The bike pulls harder down low it starts easier it idles better... I am totaly happy with the mod and especialy for no $ and about a half hour of labor. Do the mod and if for some reason you don't like it It removes in minutes. Thanks james, chris and others that helped post the pics and info. Terry

The only other thing i have found is some loss of power at WOT and higher rpm's due to the turbulance being somewhat taken away hence losing the "better" vaperisation at WOT but what percentage of the time can anyone hold WOT on the trails?? maybee 10% unless you ride a ts185 of corse. Steve.

probably less than that.. saw the readouts of some data acquisition from a race bike doing laps at Laguna seca.. wfo throttle was less than 5%... and, the plate shouldn't affect wide full open at all, since there should not be as much turbulence there to begin with.. but, even if there is, i will take that trade off for how it rides.... i love the thing.... lol james |

The only reason i noticed a difference up top was due to a straight liner with my brother and his 426, last week we had a rolling start from 90 ks up to 140 ks and my bike was in front, this week i couldn't get in front, thats not a problem for me, just a comparison check like we always do before we change both bikes What i gained up top with the 450 cam, i lost with the james now, like i say thats not a problem for me because the bottom end has more torque and is smoother resulting in faster rider allround. Steve.

My jetting feels O.K but i havn't checked the plug yet, the 450 cam gives tripple the effect of the james now, mine is still going strong i took a look at it last weekend and it looks great, i have 748 ks on it now. Steve.

Before I completely screw this up, the jamesnow goes in between the airbox and the carb, with the metal almost touching the carb right?

Right. Steve.

You will need to file the end at a taper and trial fit until it stops just short of the slide. I made mine stop about .100 before the slide and it works great. Just be sure that it can not slide up and hit the slide under any circumstances because that could be ugly and really dangerous.

Those of you who have done this did you need to change your jetting? How did the mixture run afterwards????
