The fuel stops where the main spars are welded to the section that the footpegs bolt to - if you look at the frame the reason is quite obvoius as the foot peg section is not at all hollow. The affect on handling would be minimal. We are talking about half a gallon of fuel when full, about half of that will be below the CG of the tank so that's roughly a quart that placed lower. A quart of fuel weighs just over a pound. Now, you could argue that with that quart placed lower you could run a quart less in the main tank, which will also slighly lower the CG of the main tank. In the end, there should be a very small, perhaps inperceptible benifit. Also note that the fuel in the frame is likely to be slightly hotter than the fuel in the main tank. This will, in theory, very slighly degrade performance.

I tried fuel in frame mod on my 2002 cr250. The frame had too many leaks. I used air pressure and there was air blowing out by the down tube of the frame. If anyone has any luck with this model please tell me what you did.

To date I have not heard of a CR 250 or 125 aluminum framed bike with this mod. it has kind of gone quiet as a modification for some reason. I suspect the Clarke and IMS off-road tanks that are available have filled any needs. I do think that this current and last generation of aluminum frames on the Honda 2T bikes would hold fuel since they constantly improve QC at Honda, I have no way of knowing this now since we don;t have the CR 125R any longer. However, the new small spars would not make the mod worthwhile as far as additional fuel I imagine. Bill
