C91x.....I'm just giving Jedi a hard time............its what I do. There is many things that can cause this, which one of the obvious is a over tighten chain. But another could be a rock or stick stuck between numerous guards which could cause a over tight chain. I beleive though like many others, its just a generic problem with hondas. They are made from light beer cans. That is the basic problem. Just less feelin, lol. Like Ive heard from another guy from here. God don't make crap.............honda did.........He just made it move!!!!!

ps I love you Jedi with all my heart.

Lets just say Jedi is his son's lapper. Yep Clint does ride it to the fullest, he is a real good rider. I suspect he has spent alot of time with Curtis Kirtwell.

Macho, I called that number and got EZ's Hot-N-Ready Parlor! What gives?!

Okay, back to the engine. I don't know if we did more than necessary or not but we were going for broke.

We undid all the 8mm's and started in with the dead-blow hammer. I guess we were so busy, I didn't capture any pics of this. But the lesson is that if it's not coming very easy, you missed a bolt. We did this twice.: The second time we scratched our heads a bit and rolled that engine all around. We finally found it and the cases split with ease. There's always one more bolt.:

All the gears look good.

It appears our only problem is the countershaft bearing along with the piece of casing that was busted off. I think we can get that welded back on easy enough but if not, I will use Big M's contact.

Here's an inside view of the bearing retainer. It looks a little scored so I think we'll be replacing it.

Outside view.

What's left of the bearing.

The entire engine.

SORRYJEDI........I gave you Keeto's # ,lol. But I bet you got through 1st time.

could a loose front sprocket cause this? Ive seen plenty of bikes front sprockets come a bit loose over time.

That's a good question. I don't have a clue. I'm just glad it's not any worse.
I have one last thing to add.
rbm is a great guy and has lots of knowledge. I am very thankful for his help but I feel pretty bad tonight. He smashed a finger really bad while we were working on the engine. It could have been cut off pretty easily.
The reason I feel so bad is that the finger he smashed was MINE!

DOH! I loved all the engine pics, but did you really have to include these last 2??? I sure hope you are okay Jedi. I'm glad you still have the end of your finger though.

Oh, and if you read the manual it does (at least mine does) tell you to take the impeller off to the left and not the right

You guys are true studs. This really is a huge undertaking, and ya'll are making it look easy from my nice soft air conditioned seat here in front of my computer

No...it doesn't need it, but I'll take the chance to practice my suturing skills any day.

I just took a link out of my chain because it had too much slack. It moved at least one sixteenth of an inch! Totally unacceptable!

Hey Jedi:

Since you have the little CRF torn down, now would be a good time to have RBM help you check the ring, piston & bore!

Also since Jr. is always flogging the snot out of the 250, you might want to check the valves & valve seats.

Bro, he's the one that told me to drill it! Here's the pics.

Don't look if you don't like blood!

LOL, cool pic. I bet he is at home laughing right now. But the lamp oil or kersene will deaden the nerves. I had a older dude tell me to do that with a cut and it worked!
