Default What year is my XR75??

I think it is a 74, but want to know for sure. Frame# is XR75-10008271 and engine# is XR75E 10008672. It has the silver tank, side panels and fenders. Also, shouldn't the frame and engine numbers match? Thanks for any help.

I think it's a 73/72 I'm pretty sure the tanks were red in 74.

Just found this. Might help a little. Still can't confirm the red tank, but there were some big changes in 73/74. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Everyone should have had an XR75 when growing up. I loved mine, that thing never let me down.

After I begged my parents nonstop for two years I got a brand spanking new XR75 in '78
It was a thing of beauty to learn to ride. The four stroke motocrosser in its infancy?!? Funny thing is all I wanted after riding with friends with 2 strokers was a YZ80 or RM80. Loved the sound and premix smell of the 2 strokes. But, the XR75 was a great bike to ride.

Thanks Freak .... going by the site you linked ... it would appear that I have a 73 with a 74 tank .... I did some trading with my brother on this and I have maybe 50 bucks in it .... Cleaned out the petcock and poured in some fresh gas .... started on the 2nd kick ... I was amazed ... he said he hadn't started it in at least two years. I am debating on restoring or putting it up for sale as-is. I had several of these when I was a kid and getting this one really brings back some great memories. What I would really love to find is a mid 70's GT80.

I just picked up a 76 xr75 for my 9 year old boy. He has only sat on it so far due to the fact that we are still in winter mode here, but i think he loves it. There is a gt 80 for sale 2 hours east of me. The guy wants $200 plus it comes with a second engine.

Right on bro. Yup, I think your right about the year and the tank now. 74 is when they started the wings on the tank. Glad you got it figured out.
