Thanks guys.
Suzuki still has SOME parts (don't ask the price on the 4 little bearings used on the struts! ), but alot has been discontinued. Good thng about this engine is the crank and rod are same as the old 185 and a couple others others. And after a cylinder wears out, keep boring and use the 185 pistons.
I have another 175 engine (my engine guy tells me there's ALOT he can "improve" in the cylinder) and drooled over an 82 RM125 roller at the races this weekend. Build me an RM175? Bring back the 200 class!!!
Also hard to resist was the 79 RM100 for $500.00. Dang I wanted that one......

The Cross Country Report:

Day One-
Had to ride Intermediate w/the Experts. 95 degrees. Made the 8.9 mile parade lap. BRUTAL!! Heard lots of grumbling about it being way to tough on a modern bike let alone our antiques. Tight single track, rocks, ruts and off-camber trail. Real nasty. Up..down...you name it and it was out there!

A 50+'er pitted next to me said he wasn't even going to start. 10 minutes before the start I finally made my mind up to start the race, take it easy and try to make a lap. Boy would I regret that decision!

There were supposed to be 15-16 on my row at the start. Only about 7-8 were there. Bad omen...

I havn't fallen (knock on wood) in an AHRMA race since I started them 6-7 years ago. Went down 3 times. The last 2 were on a loose boulder strewn hill and I got over-heated. Bad overheated. A guy broke his arm there right after I biffed it.

Lucky for me it was close to an old road bed and I limped back to the truck. A friend got me cooled down as I almost stroked out. Another rider ended up in the hospital w/heat stroke.

6 in my class. One finisher. The PE? Trashed bars and a few other things need straightened. Bike worked fantastic, but the rider let it down.

Day 2-
No 2nd day race for me as I couldn't have punched my way out of a wet paper sack.

About 60 riders signed up for both days of this madness. I don't think 20 riders started the race on day 2. Before it started, course marshall comes by and announces, "I took out some of the Last Man Standing Stuff".

That sucks Andy, glad you're OK though (nothing broken). This heat and
humidity is nothing to fool around with, regardless of age.

It's fortunate you quit when you did - before you reached heat exhaustion.
Once you have had heat exhaustion or worse, you're more succeptible to
getting it again - you loose some of your heat tolerance.

Hopefully this weather will moderate somewhat soon.

I knew a guy had one of these from New late 70's.
Rode it into the ground (took him 3yrs though and he never maintained it)
So they must be tough as hell.
I remember me and some other kids pushing it (aged about 10) and he promised us a go
When it eventually started he just rode off.......
Cool bike though.
