i recently traded my fully restored '90 cr250 for a 1983 honda xr500.


im starting to restore this twin carb beast back to its former glory, and it doesnt look too bad for being 25+ years old.
i had to beat the skid plate back into shape with a hammer, and i can tell this bike has been a lot of places during its life from the gouges and dents in the plate.

i think part of the fun of restoring these is to imagine where it HAS been, and what the bike and its owners have been through together.

here are some pics. i couldnt get a before and after of the plate though.

i sanded all of the old paint off the tank, and plan on getting black fenders, but leaving the tank this color



the original sprocket is on the left, and my extra is on the right. the shiny part around the left one is actually worn down about a millimeter

A beast/fun bike for sure. It would be a blast bringing it back to form. Key word for this bike "Cam Chains"

well i live in an apartment and im also only 19 so i cant really afford a garage. this way i get to see it everyday. it stinks though..

thanks for the hint about the chains. ill keep an eye out for that.
