Default I need a little help with my 490!

Hi guys, Been away for a while. But the bad thing is when I got back to put the '88 YZ 490 together again(just cant seem to stop tweaking this thing)
The dogs had pushed it over on its side.Nothing was broken.Everything went together nicely, however the clutch seems "low" before I start it could the ball bearing be missing? And if so does anyone know what size? My manual calls it a "nut" so .. Thanks, Dean.

I think that the problem is supply and demand. As the, out of production bike, gets older and people purchase "out of production" parts, the supply of parts diminish and the laws of economics kick in and the price rises accordingly. Can you get aftermarket pistons?

To bad you give up so easy. Honestly hope you are kidding.

Your right I did not tell him what to do because (you obviously didn't figure it out) I was addressing your statement.

however I would not tell him to go to the hardware store for a ball bearing.
I would send him to a bearing shop. All balls (sic) are not alike.
I would also tell him to grease the ball and the shaft end when assembling.

As for my remark. Val hit it on the head. Supply and demand is why your piston cost is high, however there really are other paths you could follow to beat the cost but you choose the easy way out.

I bet a nickle you come back and look.

I used wiesco for the RZ350 pistons some years ago but I would imagine they are now just as much as OEM.

Nice to see everyone has an opinion! I also have. Two years ago Yamaha,Honda and Dennis Kirk were selling 40mm Mikuni's for around $450.This year $130-150 ? I would like to hear some thoughts on the problem at hand.I did grease the pin. But the bike hit pretty hard.I just didn't want to pull the case and basket and kicker and all that. ps My local junkyard here in Denver has nearly any part for any bike cheap.
