Default Cycle Ranch Race report

Sat 4/12/03

The track was in good shape & mostly setup just like it was for the 4-stroke nationals, It just had some sections taken out for the vintage bikes.

Vintage Dave looked really good in practice & had his Maico running like it was on fire!

When the gate droped for the fist Evo III moto Vintage Dave was gone like the wind!

But just about 3/4 into the first lap he stalled the Maico & had trouble getting out of gear to start it & 2 guys got by including Brad Burney( XR 350) when Dave got the Maico going he was going all out & was catching the leaders, But he ran out steam & finnshied 2nd

Cycle Rayn twisted his foot in practice & was not on his game!
When the gate droped for the frist mot I was right behind Cycle Ryan & looking for a plce to pass, When I thought the expanshion chamber broke. Talk about noise! I couldn't tell how bad it was or where the brake was, so I back offed not wanted to size the Maico. I finnshed 2nd behind CycleRayn. I found out later that it was just the silencer that came off the back of the pipe!

Moto 2 for Vintage Dave, I didn't see much of this race But I'm sure that Brad Burney took the XR to the class win!

Moto 2 for CycleRyan & I was not a good race for me!, I got a midpack start & was right behind cycleryan & the carb fell off the Maico, I stuck it back in the rubber mount & tried to ride a lap & it came out again, So I pulled off! CycleRyan got Frist place!

Congrats Mike!

Vintage Dave sold Brad Burney his pristeen Honda CR 250! look out for Brad on the bad boy soon!

Dave & Mike please free to add to this post as I 'm still a little short on some of the details, It's was a loooong day for me & I'm getting old!

See you guy's at Splendora on the 27th

WOOHOO! Congrats Dave and Mike!! Umm, Big M, you weren't supposed to tell people ol faithful broke down! Sorry to hear your luck my friend. Better luck next time... take lots of bailing wire and duct tape By the way, I thought it was common practice to remove the silencer... you know the old saying, more sound = more speed. DOH!

Dave, are you ever going to beat that ol XR 350? Man, that has to be devastating to be in front and then stall it! Sounds like you gave him a run for the money anyway!

Congrats again men!

Angry Re: Cycle Ranch Race report

Vintage Dave had thoughts of trying the 60 foot step up double to beat Brad on the XR. Since you are reading this post it is obvious that I did not attempt the double.

Brad and I had a good race for about a lap in the second moto. A little bar banging and some outbraking into some of the 180 turns. Then I experienced the Vintage Dave fade. I need to ride more and get back in shape.....ok,ok......I just need to get in shape.

BTW, Big Maico didn't mention it but I put a juice clutch on my Maico and pulled some massive 3rd gear start holeshots. It's much easier to finish second if you work your way back.

Wow , that was 3rd Gear on the start? Dave spanked them out of the hole!! I had fun and was suprised to win hurt. My ankle is SWELL and I should be good for the next race.(I stayed home from work today and laid around on my old sore ***). Brad is fired up about the 79 honda 250 and is already looking for perf. parts. I think this vintage stuff is getting addicting for me. I have a modern KX 250 in the shed that I have not seen in months. Till the next race! Mike ( H.L. , fix it good so we can dice)

Went to the machine shop today & got the carb mount fixed, I also call the guy's @ worksperformance about the shock springs & they said that I had the heavest spring's that they make for that shock. looks like I'll have to dig up the spring grinding forumla & grind the spring's until I get the right rate! I'll keep you up to date as I go along!

What about brand new springs? Would they be stiffer , or can you space them up a bit for a stronger spring rate? Heck , I am just guessing. Good luck! Mike
