Default CR480 issues

Hello, I'm new, my name is Tim I am from mid-TN.

I recently bought a used Cr480. The ignition system has been butchered by the last owner trying to return spark. Does anyone have a manual they want to sell, or enlighten me with a few pages of info? I really need to know what and how to test the stator. I assume the coil is bad, pri coil is 8 ohm, secondary is 117 ohm.

What is a good place to get replacement ignition parts for this old bike? I will prob need the stator, cdi, and coil just to be safe.

Been bikeless since my ex wife sold my bikes while I was deployed, ready to get back out riding!

Your coil numbers show it to be bad. I would start there.
Try e-bay for parts.

Well, the equipment is not OEM and I have been out of the moto market so long, I'm not sure what I am dealing with anymore. I have attached a .pdf with pictures, there is no CDI, the stator goes straight to this coil. The coil has no identifiable brand or part numbers located on it.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Tim,

That's a PVL ignition, they use to be imported by Penton imports.

Give a me a few days & I might be able to come up with a parts supplier.

As for more information you can try the CR500 page.

Alright, I appreciate it.

Just from your information I have done research and found that the PVL isnt great for the bigger bore 2 stroke because of low spark power during kick starting. That I need a different plug, because I'm sure its not using a iridium plug either. That I need to check the stator clearance all the way around, and kick my self in the butt thinking that buying this bike was a good idea lol.

I guess if worse comes to worst, I can always buy used OEM and install it. The PVL looks new, and I need to sit down and check timing, and the key, and all that because at this time I'm not sure I can assume anything done before me is correct.

I'm not sure if these guys will carry what you need, but might be worth checking in to.

They're very reasonable and from what I understand, work a little better on big bore bikes than PVL's.
